NFL Preview: Jason Bell casts his eye over the NFC

| BY News Team

The 2022/23 NFL season is days away. Who will make it all the way to Super Bowl LVII?

From 2013 to 2020, six of the eight Super Bowl winners were from the AFC. But the last two years have seen the NFC champions lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Will the NFC continue their winning streak? Jason Bell takes a look at each side in the four divisions:

NFC East – “Which QB will dominate this division?”

Dallas Cowboys (5/4 to win the NFC East)

The Cowboys are the favourites to win the division, but more importantly they’ve got to have Playoff success. The pressure is on quarterback Dak Prescott to do that. And, on defense, their star linebacker Micah Parsons has to lead the way.

New York Giants (8/1 to win the NFC East)

The Giants’ success is tied to the play of quarterback Daniel Jones, and he has a new head coach to help him improve. Hopefully, with the additions at the receiver position and a new offensive line, he can finally get this franchise in the right direction.

Philadelphia Eagles (6/4 to win the NFC East)

Jalen Hurts has got to prove he is the quarterback of the future and he’s got the offensive line to help with that. Plus, the addition of wide receiver A.J. Brown can hopefully ignite this passing offense.

Washington Commanders (5/1 to win the NFC East)

The Commanders have a new quarterback in Carson Wentz. He’s on his third team in three years, let’s see if he is their answer at the quarterback position. Also, the Commanders and their head coach Ron Rivera have got to fix this defense and return to its 2020 form if they’re going to have any chance in this division.

Get 18/1 on the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl, while Jalen Hurts is 28/1 to star for the Eagles and be named regular-season MVP.

NFC North – “A division dominated by one team”

Chicago Bears (12/1 to win the NFC North)

Bears quarterback Justin Fields has to show improvement this year. The question is, has his team given him enough support? Their new head coach, Matt Eberflus, is going to have to keep this defense playing at a high level for them to be competitive in this division.

Detroit Lions (9/1 to win the NFC North)

Under the direction of head coach Dan Campbell, you know this team is going to fight. Quarterback Jared Goff is going to have to capitalise with this exciting group of offensive weapons.

Green Bay Packers (1/2 to win the NFC North)

The Packers are the favourites to win the division and their Super Bowl window is open. And even though Aaron Rodgers is a two-time MVP, this year’s team might be led by their defense. I’m picking them to win this division.

Minnesota Vikings (11/4 to win the NFC North)

The Vikings have a new head coach in Kevin O’Connell, who is bringing a new attitude and a new offensive philosophy. Can his approach get Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson and they’re running back Dalvin Cook into the Playoffs?

Get 10/1 on Aaron Rodgers to claim a third MVP and the same odds on his Packers side winning the Super Bowl.

NFC South – “Can Brady take the Bucs to the Super Bowl?”

Atlanta Falcons (25/1 to win the NFC South)

The Falcons have got a new quarterback Marcus Mariota, who replaced Matt Ryan, who now plays for the Colts. Let’s see if he’s able to hold off their rookie draft pick Desmond Ridder.

Carolina Panthers (10/1 to win the NFC South)

This team could be interesting with their new quarterback Baker Mayfield. He’s teamed up with star running back Christian McCaffrey and this young defense. They played well last year and should improve.

New Orleans Saints (7/2 to win the NFC South)

The Saints have one of the best defenses in the NFL. But it’s all about how this offense will improve with the return of Jameis Winston and wide receiver Michael Thomas.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3/10 to win the NFC South)

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the favourites to win this division, but for this season to be considered successful they’ve got to make it back to the Super Bowl. All eyes will be on their offensive line after replacing starters and having injuries this pre-season. I’m rolling with the Buccaneers to win this division.

Jason’s pick – the Bucs – are 15/2 second favourites to win the Super Bowl.

NFC West – “The most-competitive conference in the NFC”

Arizona Cardinals (10/3 to win the NFC West)

Quarterback Kyler Murray cashed a big cheque this season with his new contract. Now it’s time for him to take this team to the next level. For that to happen they must avoid collapsing at the end of the season.

Los Angeles Rams (6/5 to win the NFC West)

The reigning champions are the favourites to win this division and that is the key if they want to make it back to the Super Bowl. Let’s see if this offense can be even more potent now that quarterback Matthew Stafford has wide receiver Alan Robinson teamed up with Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp. I’m picking them to win this division.

San Francisco 49ers (7/4 to win the NFC West)

The anticipation of starting quarterback Trey Lance is undeniable. If he performs well, matched with a dominant 49ers defense, this team could be in the Super Bowl.

Seattle Seahawks (12/1 to win the NFC West)

It’s the end of the Russell Wilson-era in Seattle and the quarterback position will be of concern this year. Hopefully wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett have the ability to make up for that.

Trey Lance is 28/1 to live up to the hype and be named MVP. His 49ers side are 16/1 to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
