NFL week 11 preview: Vikings and Cowboys set for a classic

| BY News Team

We were treated to another weekend of thrilling action in the NFL last weekend, with the Vikings overtime win against the Bills perhaps one of the matches of the decade let alone the season.

Elsewhere the Eagles were surprisingly defeated by the Commanders, meaning we now don’t have any undefeated teams left, showing the competitiveness of the league this season.

It’s all to play for then as we head into week 11 and here’s our view on a couple of enticing encounters.

New York Jets @ New England Patriots

An intriguing contest in the AFC East sees the 6-3 New York Jets travel to Gillette Stadium to face the 5-4 New England Patriots.

The Jets have certainly been one of the stories of the season so far and are probably the most improved side in the league and head coach Robert Saleh should take a great amount of credit for their upturn in form. Evidence of such was last time out when they beat many people’s idea of the winners of the Super Bowl in the Buffalo Bills. That will have given them huge amounts of confidence and they’ll be refreshed for this crunch divisional encounter having had a bye last week.

Despite their solid season so far, they do go into this one as the 6/4 outsiders, while they are 20/21 with the 3-point handicap.

The reason they are the outsiders here is likely two-fold. Firstly, they lost to the Patriots at home when they played them in week eight and secondly heading over to play their divisional rivals in Foxborough is no easy feat. We all know that Bill Belichick is one of the shrewdest coaches around and he’ll have been planning meticulously for this one.

The Patriots are still in transition post Tom Brady but they are on the right path, particularly on defence, which has developed into one of the best in the league. Mac Jones at quarterback is improving week-on-week, and while they aren’t at Super Bowl-challenging level yet, there’s plenty of room for optimism moving forward.

They head into this as the 10/17 favourites and are 20/23 to cover the 3-point spread.

Dallas Cowboys @ Minnesota Vikings

What a cracker we have in store in the late window as the Cowboys travel to the Vikings.

As mentioned, the Vikings were involved in an epic encounter against the Bills and showed real guts to grind out a win at one of the hardest places to win at. Justin Jefferson continues to show he’s one of, if not, the best wide receivers in the league and his catch deep in the fourth quarter to keep the Vikings drive alive will go down as one of the league’s best ever. As we mentioned last week, an offence with him in it has a chance and providing Kirk Cousins can keep doing what he’s doing, this Vikings side can go really well this year.

The Vikings, 12-1 to go all the way after that Bills win, are the marginal outsiders here at EVNS.

In all honesty, it’s hard to know where we are with this Dallas Cowboys side. They are 6-3 in the NFC East, which on the face of it looks a decent-enough start, but with the Eagles and Giants well ahead in the division, they can’t afford too many more mistakes if they want to be playing playoff football.

This is a side blessed with quality on both sides of the ball and given that, they will be expecting, at minimum, to be in the playoffs. Perhaps slightly surprisingly given each team’s respective records, the Cowboys are the 5/6 favourites here, while they are 10/11 to cover the 1-point spread.
