AFC West Predictions 2026: Chiefs Head Betting But Division Looks Competitive
The AFC West feels like the deepest division in football again, with three teams carrying legitimate case studies for the crown and a fourth trying to drag itself out of the mud – William Hill News are here to preview the division ahead of the 2026 NFL season.
Denver is trying to defend the title, Kansas City wants its old stranglehold back, and the Chargers are still hunting the season where talent finally turns into payoff. Las Vegas looks improved, but it still has the longest climb.
AFC West Odds:
- Kansas City Chiefs – 13/8
- Los Angeles Chargers – 15/8
- Denver Broncos – 2/1
- Las Vegas Raiders – 16/1
The betting board reflects that squeeze. Kansas City are narrow NFL betting favourites, the Chargers are next up with the Broncos close behind and the Raiders as rank outsiders for the AFC West title.
That kind of cluster at the top usually means the division race will be decided by quarterback health, trench play and who handles the late stretch without wobbling.
Denver Broncos
Denver arrives with the cleanest recent proof of concept after winning the AFC West in 2025, but repeating is rarely tidy in this division.
Bo Nix is back in the middle of the project after a playoff ankle injury, and the Broncos have already leaned into giving him more help by trading for Jaylen Waddle while bringing back J.K. Dobbins and Alex Singleton. That is a serious attempt to keep the offense from living and dying on one or two drives.
The defense still looks like the carrying unit. Denver led the NFL with 68 sacks in 2025, and the core of Nik Bonitto, Zach Allen and Patrick Surtain II gives them weekly upside on that side of the ball.
The concern is depth and the margin for error if Nix is not fully right early. If he is healthy, Denver can grind out another title. If not, the division can chew them up fast.
Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City is the team bettors will keep circling because the ceiling is still ridiculous when Patrick Mahomes is healthy.
Mahomes is working back from a torn ACL and LCL suffered in December, and the Chiefs have added Kenneth Walker III to give the offense a real running threat for the first time in a while. That matters, because a steadier ground game should stop defenses from treating every snap like a pure passing-down puzzle.
The roster still has some sharp edges, especially at receiver and in the secondary, after offseason changes brought in new names across the board.
Even so, Andy Reid and Steve Spagnuolo are the sort of coaching pair that can keep a contender upright while younger pieces settle in. If Mahomes is close to himself, Kansas City is the safest pick in the division at the current price.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers keep living in the dangerous space between being good and being the team everyone regrets overlooking.
Jim Harbaugh has a strong roster, Justin Herbert is still the kind of quarterback who can tilt a division, and the offseason changes were built to make life easier rather than flashier.
The most important move might be the arrival of Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator, because it should bring quicker answers and a cleaner structure for Herbert.
Tyler Biadasz is a useful stabiliser in the middle of the line, while David Njoku and Keaton Mitchell add more variety to the skill group.
Defensively, the Chargers have a nasty front with Khalil Mack, Tuli Tuipulotu, Akheem Mesidor and Derwin James anchoring the unit. They have the talent to win the AFC West, but this team needs the offence to be sharper in the first month, not just the second half.
Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas is better equipped than a year ago, but it still feels like a team building toward 2027 rather than one ready to own 2026.
The new offensive setup under Klint Kubiak gives the Raiders a cleaner identity, and the quarterback room with Kirk Cousins and Fernando Mendoza at least gives them options. Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty are the obvious pillars, and that is where most of the optimism starts and stops.
Maxx Crosby remains the defensive headliner, and the Raiders have tried to patch other gaps with free agency and rookie help. That said, the depth still looks thin and the roster still carries too many unknowns for a realistic division push.
Improvement should come, and it could be enough to make them awkward for rivals late in the year, but a title run would require several things to break right at once.
AFC West Prediction
The betting angle to consider is whether Kansas City can win the division, even with Denver defending and the Chargers pushing hard.
Mahomes still changes games in a way nobody else in the AFC West can match, and the added run-game support gives the Chiefs a more balanced path than they had last season. It is still the bet that fits the combination of ceiling, coaching and proven division pedigree.
For punters who want the cleaner play, Kansas City to win the AFC West looks like the best division-winner angle, while Denver is the live alternative if you think Nix stays healthy and the Broncos’ defense keeps the pressure on all year.
