It’s been a dramatic week on Love Island. The highly anticipated competition was burst wide open following Ollie Williams’ announcement that he is leaving the show because he “still loves his girlfriend.”
The controversy stems from news coverage of Williams’ international adventures, as pictures emerged of the 23-year-old posing next to dead animals he was accused of trophy hunting.
On Thursday night’s episode, newcomers Connagh Howard and Finley Tapp enjoyed romantic vineyard dates – with some nervous boys waiting back at the villa. With a recoupling on the cards on Friday night, we run through the hottest contenders for victory – and those most likely to be eliminated next.
Callum Jones, a 23-year-old Mancunian scaffolder, had a shocker of a start to this winter season as an ex went to the press to label him ‘dumb’ and ‘a liar’. Callum fought back early on when he picked one of the Gale twins, though he still seems keen on Shaughna Phillips. The stunt doesn’t seem to have hurt Callum’s chances – he currently stands at a short 5/2 to win outright.
Londoner Mike Boateng, a 24-year-old policeman, caught the reality show bug from brother Samuel, who starred in The Apprentice in 2016. Mike made Love Island history in the early stages of this season by opting to sleep in The Doghouse rather than in the bed he shared with partner Jess Gale. Turns out that PC Boateng has gone back to Leanne Amaning, his first choice on the island – and she is sharing The Doghouse with him. Mike is 13/8 to win outright.
After sharing a kiss with Sophie Piper at the start of Thursday night’s episode, it all went downhill for Connor Durman. The former coffee bean salesman was visibly upset by Sophie’s excited reaction to the news that two more boys are set to enter the villa. His suspicions proved irrational, as Piper actually emphasised her loyalty even after a date with new boy Connagh. Connor is 6/1 to claim the ultimate prize.
The two strong frontrunners for first male to be eliminated are Nas Majeed and Connor, at 4/9 and 10/3 respectively. Just behind them are Callum at 8/1 and Finley at 12/1. Twin Sisters Jess and Eve Gale recently experienced a torrent of online abuse about their appearance following the emergence of images from days gone by. A tweet in their defence from summer Love Island finalist Molly-Mae Hague doesn’t seemed to have helped them in the markets – the pair are favourites for first female elimination in Friday night’s show. They are both rank outsiders to win the competition at 18/1.
