Love Island is so popular that ITV have had to introduce a winter version to satisfy the demands of their devoted viewers. With a new Winter Love Island series set in South Africa due to hit our screens on Sunday, we take a look at some of the contestants worth keeping an eye on.
If you think you recognise Sophie Piper from somewhere, that’s probably because you’re thinking of her sister. Sophie is the younger sibling of Rochelle Humes of The Saturdays fame, with the pair looking strikingly similar. That celebrity connection is likely the reason Sophie, a 21-year-old medical PA from Essex, heads the top female market at 5/2. Definitely one to watch out for in the early days inside the villa.
Next in the running in the female category is Paige Turley, a 22-year-old singer from West Lothian, who sits at 11/4 heading into the new series. Paige states she’s from “a small village where everyone knows each other or has been an ex of someone.” She should feel right at home in the villa and be ready for all that Winter Love Island has to throw at her. Being Lewis Capaldi’s ex-girlfriend shouldn’t do her any harm in the popularity stakes either.
It’s two for the price of one with Eve and Jess Gale. No, they’re not joint-contestants, but they are twin sisters, which sounds like a recipe for great television once they’re dumped into the Winter Love Island villa. If you don’t believe us, just listen to Eve: “Boys often say, ‘Right, I fancy you both – which one of you wants me?’” The 20-year-old students and VIP hostesses from London are both 5/1 in the betting for top female behind Sophie and Paige.
If you thought Dr Alex from a couple of series ago was entertaining in the Love Island villa, then Mike Boateng, a police officer from London, could be about to match him this time around. It’s likely his profession that sees the 24-year-old sit as joint-favourite in the male category at 9/4 ahead of the new series – and if he’s as “confident, charming and charismatic” as he claims he is, he could be the one to beat out of the boys.
Sitting alongside Mike as 9/4 joint-favourite in the male category is 23-year-old scaffolder from Manchester, Callum Jones. “I’m a cheeky chap, I have builders’ banter and I’m down to earth as well,” states Callum. Whatever it is exactly that builders’ banter may be, it seems to have impressed people early on given he’s an early frontrunner ahead of his entrance to the Winter Love Island villa on Sunday.
So we’ve already mentioned a pop star’s sister, a pop star’s ex-girlfriend, twins and a policeman, but how about an heir to the Lanhydrock Estate? Welcome Ollie Williams, who is set to inherit a £15.8 million mansion in Cornwall at some point in the future. As well as being next in line to the Lanhydrock Estate, Ollie is also next in line in the male category at 7/2. Will the 23-year-old choose to keep his fortune secret or will he reveal it should a girl win his heart? We’ll soon be finding out.
