Where and When?

Canelo Alvarez vs Jaime Munguía takes place on Saturday 4th May, 2024, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The main undercard is due to start at 1am BST in the early hours of Sunday morning for those in the UK, with Canelo and Munguía set to make their ring walks at 4am.

Canelo Alvarez – 1/6

The 33-year-old is back in action this weekend and it’s a particularly special occasion against compatriot Munguia, his first Mexican opponent in seven years. Canelo finds himself a strong favourite here as he has only lost two fights, one to Floyd Mayweather and one to Dimitry Bivol.

Canelo still sits as the number one ranked fighter in the weight division with an astounding 60-2-2 record, including 39 knockouts. Canelo to win by KO, TKO or DQ is 19/10 and you would think that to be quite likely if he does go onto win the fight, seeing as 65% of his wins have come before the final bell.

Jaime Munguía – 4/1

Munguía gained significant attention in the boxing world for his aggressive style and powerful punches. He is unbeaten in the light middleweight, middleweight and super middleweight divisions, but Saturday brings his toughest test in the form of fellow countryman, Canelo Alvarez.

Munguía has been considered one of the rising stars in the sport. Known for his exciting fights and knockout power, he has maintained a flawless record in all 43 of his fights so far. Of his 43 victories, 34 were by knockout, which represents more than 79%, exhibiting remarkable power and effectiveness in the ring. This fight is sure to behold fireworks. Jaime Munguía to win by KO, TKO or DQ is a price of 9/1, which isn’t a surprise as Canelo’s two losses have both come via points decisions.

Fight Prediction – Jaime Munguía By Decision or Technical Decision

Canelo may be the strong odds-on favourite, but there are physical statistics that suggest the 27-year-old, Jaime Munguia, could out-fight his odds. Munguía is six years younger than Canelo and this could prove useful with regards to stamina in the later rounds.

Alongside this, Munguía has a 10cm height advantage standing at 183cm to Canelo’s 172.72cm. Another key factor which coincides with the height advantage for the underdog is his four centimetre reach advantage. The 27-year-old has a reach of 183cm, whereas Canelo only has a 179cm reach. These could be the small margins which help the potentially spritelier 27-year-old Munguía both offensively and defensively.

Both fighters which Canelo has been defeated by, Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol, have had 182cm and 183cm reach lengths, showing that it is a major factor in keeping Canelo at bay. If Jaime Munguía can use this to his advantage, we can see the fight going the distance much like Canelo’s previous losses have. We think if Jaime Munguía can see out all 12 rounds then he can win by Decision or Technical Decision, which is a backable price of 7/1.
