Chris Eubank Jr professional career history

Chris Eubank Jr turned professional in 2011 at the age of 22 and signed with Mick Hennessy. Mentored by his father, the former world champion, and Ronnie Davies, he quickly felt at home in the division and developed into a powerful fighter.

He went on to win his first 18 fights with 13 knockouts and looked on course for world champion status. With the team behind him, his obvious talent and drive, it seemed inevitable that we would one day reach the highest levels of professional boxing.

Chris Eubank Jr v James DeGale

On February 23rd 2019, Chris Eubank Jr fought the British James DeGale in a grudge match that had caught the attention of millions after a back-and-forth narrative between the two fighters picked up steam on social media and in the press.

It took place at the O2 Arena in London and the rivalry, which had started in a sparring session and continued across social media, landed in the ring to the huge excitement of the fans.

Billed as one of the biggest battle of Britain fights of the year, hundreds of thousands tuned in to see the grudge settled. It was a tough bout from the start, swaying from one’s advantage to the other, though throughout, it seemed as if Eubank Jr was holding the edge.

Winning via unanimous decision after a series of knockdowns in rounds two and 10, Chris Eubank Jr took the victory and set himself up for his next fight, pushing himself further into the limelight and giving him a firm grip on the IBO super-middleweight title.

Chris Eubank Jr v Billy Joe Saunders

Originally meant to fight on the undercard of Tyson Fury v Derek Chisora II, Chris Eubank Jr took on fellow Brit and unbeaten Billy Joe Saunders on November 29th 2014, who looked to be a serious contender alongside Chris Jr for a world title shot.

The bout was staged at the ExCel Arena in London, and at stake were Saunders’ British, Commonwealth and European titles. Fighting only a month before the meeting was set to take place, Chris Jr knocked out Omar Siala in the second round and was considered to be in with a very good chance of taking the belts off Saunders.

However, it was not to be for Chris Jr, who lost his unbeaten record against the other British boxer via split decision, knocking him back to the drawing board. It was a tough fight for Chris Jr, who was held at arm’s length for the first six rounds, unable to make a real dent in Saunders’s defence.

It seemed to many that Chris Jr was not fighting anywhere near his best and was perhaps affected by the occasion and the dazzling lights of the first major title bout of his career. Despite initially struggling, Chris Jr showed what he could do from the seventh round onwards, taking the fight back into his control and landing some heavy hits on his opponent, who struggled with the sudden change in momentum.

From then on, it could have gone either way, and Chris Jr ended the 12th round on the verge of a knockout, but the early difficulties the young boxer had run into were enough to put off the judges and see the fight end in a split decision in Saunders’ favour.

Chris Eubank Jr v Dmitry Chudinov

Chris Eubank Jr fought Dmitry Chudinov at the O2 Arena on the undercard of Tyson Fury v Christian Hammer on February 28th, 2015. The WBA Interim middleweight champion Chudinov was 14-0-2 with nine knockouts at the time and was favoured by the bookies to hold onto his belts.

Crashing through the defences of the Russian from the beginning of the fight, Eubank Jr well and truly turned up and looked to be back boxing at the peak of his ability, sending uppercuts and left-right combos that were too powerful for Chudinov to predict.

Eventually, grinding Chudnov down to a halt, the fight was stopped in the 12th round and Eubank was awarded the win via TKO and the WBA interim middleweight title.

When the decision to end the fight was made, Eubank was considerably ahead on all three of the judge’s scorecards and seemed surprisingly undamaged by the 12 rounds of fighting. The win served as redemption for his previous loss and put the fighter back on the map as an adversary worth fearing.

After claiming the impressive victory, Eubank looked to seek a rematch with Billy Joe Saunders. However, after multiple offers and a communication breakdown, Eubank Jr didn’t sign, and the fight never happened, though Chris Jr continued winning and further made a name for himself in the boxing world.

Though his loss to Saunders may have halted the young boxer’s growing momentum, Chris Jr bounced back and signed with Eddie Hearn shortly after, boosting his profile even further and earning his debut on Sky Sports.
