Conor Benn started his professional career aged just 19 at the time, winning his debut by first round TKO. Since then, Benn has refined his skills and is yet to taste defeat, and with seven title defences under his belt he will be full of confidence ahead of the biggest fight of his career against Chris Eubank Jr. The family rivalry will be settled once and for all 30 years after their fathers had their legendary bouts.

Conor Benn’s Professional Career History

After his debut, Benn went on to win all of his fights to date, winning 14 of the bouts by knockout. Since the start of his professional career, Benn has been trained by Tony Sims, the former professional boxer and highly regarded coach, who has trained the likes of Anthony Joshua in his early years.

Sims’ top quality teaching, combined with his father’s help, has no doubt played a huge part in Benn’s development into the fighter he is today, and ahead of his all-important bout he will need Sim’s skill and experience in his corner more than ever.

So, what have been Conor Benn’s most important fights so far?

Conor Benn v Chris van Heerden

On April 16th this year, Conor Benn faced off against Chris van Heerden, arguably his toughest WBA Continental welterweight title defence yet. Heerden entered the ring with an impressive record of 28-2-1, whereas Benn had an undefeated record of 20-0.

The bout took place at Manchester Arena, with an ecstatic crowd in attendance. The fight didn’t last long however, with Benn putting an end to the spectacle in just the second round with a technical knockout.

This victory cemented Benn as a truly tough opponent and marked his seventh consecutive title defence.

Conor Benn v Chris Algieri

Chris Algieri was the first Chris from what will be Benn’s third opponent named Chris in a row after his fight against Eubank Jr. Algieri was a dangerous opponent hailing from America and had a record of 25-3 before stepping into the ring against Benn.

The fight went down at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, on the 11th December 2021. Algieri was coming off a 10-round unanimous decision win against Mikkel LesPierre, so was full of confidence heading into the match-up.

Unfortunately for Algieri, he lost by knockout in round four. In addition, he was dropped earlier in the bout during the second round and didn’t pose a real threat to ‘The Destroyer’ Benn.

Conor Benn v Cedrick Peynaud

This fight was a rematch between the two fighters. However, this time there was a vacant welterweight belt on the line. When the pair first fought in December 2017, Benn secured a points win, but it was a closely fought contest where Benn was dropped twice in the first round.

The rematch occurred on July 28th, 2018, at the O2 Arena, Greenwich. Despite Peynaud’s best efforts he lost the bout by unanimous decision yet again, squandering his chance at the welterweight belt.

For Benn, it marked the start of his reign as champion, and he is yet to be dethroned from his place among the welterweight elites.
