Battle of the Titans: Usyk vs Fury Fight

| BY News Team

The next battle within the heavyweight war is fast approaching, with all of the heavyweight belts on the line. Below we run you through this mouthwatering spectacle and what to expect when two of the world’s greatest fighters go toe-to-toe.

When and Where?

We’ve had to wait longer than originally expected to see the showdown between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, to find the new undisputed heavyweight champion. The bout was originally scheduled for February 17th, but Fury picked up a bad cut during training which meant that the fight had to be rescheduled. Therefore the fight will take place on May 18th in the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The winner could well take on Anthony Joshua later this year, who ruthlessly knocked out Francis Ngannou to reassert his position as one of the heavyweight division’s elite fighters.

“The Gypsy King” Tyson Fury– 10/11

Fury is rebounding from a poor performance against Francis Ngannou, where he was dropped by the former UFC heavyweight champion and narrowly escaped defeat on the scorecards – a decision which came under a lot of scrutiny.

Fury will need to step it up against Usyk who has established himself as one of the most technically gifted boxers around, whereas Ngannou was having his first professional bout outside of MMA. With an undefeated 35-1-0 record, Fury last successfully defended his WBC belt against Derek Chisora in December 2022.

“The Cat” Oleksandr Usyk– 10/11

Usyk is entering the ‘Battle of the Titans’ off the back of a ninth-round stoppage over British contender Daniel Dubois. The Ukrainian is 28/1 to win this fight in round nine again. It is worth noting there is a rematch clause for THIS BOUT, which could make for two undisputed fights in a matter of months.

Usyk, a technically proficient boxer, moved up to the heavyweight class in 2019 following a lengthy career at cruiserweight. After five fights, four of which were title battles, he is still undefeated there.

Prediction

The ‘Titans’ can’t currently be split in the market, with both fighters at 10/11 in the bout betting, highlighting the sheer magnitude and close-matched nature of this contest.

It’s very difficult to oppose the idea of the fight going the full 12 rounds and it’s hard to envisage one of the fighters running away with it on the scorecard. One of the two throwing in the towel seems almost unthinkable and as such the fight is 2/5 to go the distance.

If so, “The Gypsy King” is as tough as they come and has proved time and time again that he can evade shots and deliver some devastating blows for a full 36 minutes. Both fighters are undoubtedly tough and will not be easily beaten.

It has been demonstrated that Fury is a unique fighter who can fake and unnerve opponents before attacking. We can see this playing out to his advantage, resulting in Fury winning by split decision. The market currently offers Tyson Fury on points at 13/8. Keep an eye out for Fury by split decision nearer to fight night.
