Jake Paul vs Mike Perry preview

| BY News Team

One of the most controversial names in professional boxing is back in the ring this weekend as Jake Paul faces off against Mike Perry at the Amalie Arena in Tampa.

The American internet personality was heavily criticised in the beginning of his professional boxing career, but his results have begun to speak for themself. The ability and commitment Paul has to the sport deserves recognition and there’s no reason to think that he can’t compete with professional fighters. His name in the scene carries lots of weight due to his fame outside the sport, which has attracted other professionals to making a fight with the Ohio man.

The odds

Sporting a record of 9-1-0, his only loss coming to Tommy Fury, Jake Paul is priced at 2/9 to win the bout versus his opponent Mike Perry, who is 100/30.

The fighters

Mike Perry is an experienced mixed martial arts and bare-knuckle fighter; he has only had the one professional boxing bout which he lost. However, he does hold the experience edge over Jake Paul. With 22 fights in the UFC and five in his bare-knuckle career, this is someone who has been in the ring a lot longer, but this hasn’t phased Paul previously.

The fight is being touted as a warm-up bout for the Ohio man, whose fight with Mike Tyson had to be rescheduled to November 15th on doctor’s orders after Mike Tyson suffered an ulcer flare-up. Jake Paul is favoured for the bout against the ex-heavyweight champion of the world at the price of 4/9.

The social media star has already taken some big scalps in the boxing ring, notably Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz, who all held an experience edge as well as being previous UFC champions, this didn’t stop Paul being victorious. He’s short at 2/9 but it’s hard to see past him.

The verdict

As mentioned, it’s hard to see past Jake Paul this weekend. Even though he isn’t unbeaten, he is continuing to rise in ability and prowess within the sport and there isn’t a reason to believe that’s stopping any time soon. It’s clear to see that Jake Paul’s opponents are handpicked to give him experience with seasoned fighters who are no longer in their primes, but it takes bravery to get in the ring and he still has to beat what is put in front of him.

In Mike Perry, he has an experienced UFC veteran who is handy across several forms of professional fighting and will be well conditioned to taking damage from his opponent, the 13/8 on the fight to go the distance makes some appeal as a result. Jake Paul will likely prove too good for Perry who’s beginning to look a bit exposed, whilst Paul seems to be getting better and better. Jake Paul can be backed to win by Decision or Technical Decision at 21/10.
