KSI v Tommy Fury preview: Fury’s experience to prove too much for KSI

| BY News Team

British reality TV/social media and boxing crossover stars Tommy Fury and KSI are set to take to the ring in Manchester on Saturday as both put their unbeaten boxing records on the line.

We preview the fight below.

Fury a firm favourite

A runner-up in the 2019 series of Love Island, there’s certainly no love lost when Tommy Fury takes to the ring, as you would expect hailing from the family he does.

Tyson Fury’s half-brother has stepped into the ring nine times since his first fight in 2018 and remains undefeated. He put four of his first five rivals to sleep early in his fights, and while he has won his last four on points or via decision, he’s largely looked in control whenever he has taken to the ring. Last time against Jake Paul was his biggest test so far and although he found himself on the end of a fierce Paul blow that landed him on the deck in the eighth round, by that stage Fury had done enough to secure a split decision win.

Boxing his always been Fury’s main focus and there’s no denying he’s a talented fighter with a dangerous blend of speed and power. He threw 302 punches in his fight with Jake Paul, nearly double that of the American, and landed 88 of them – a high 29 percent hit rate. It’s that high frequency and accuracy that could make Fury tough for KSI to handle in Manchester.

Fury also has a good deal more experience than his opponent, with nine fights to KSI’s five and, as we saw against Jake Paul, the fact that Fury is primarily a boxer does give him an advantage over most crossover stars. Fury is just 3/10 to win, and while to win by KO is tempting at 11/10, given the fact his most recent fights have gone the distance, Fury to win by decision at 7/4 is most appealing.

KSI primed for fight of his life

KSI is a social media influencer and musician, who is best known for promoting products such as energy drink Prime. The 30-year-old Londoner has also shown he’s useful in the ring, winning four of his five fights to date (his latest knockout win over Joe Fourier was later overruled and settled as a no contest).

While he boasts a win over Logan Paul to his name, this will be by far KSI’s biggest fight and challenge to date as he steps into the ring with a pro boxer for the first time. He’s shown that he’s a good mover in the ring so far and will need that if he’s to avoid Fury’s barrage of punches, so it’s perhaps not surprising that KSI is 3/1 to be knocked down in the first two rounds.

KSI will need to make this the fight of his life if he is to come out on top (5/2). With three of his wins coming via KO, he doesn’t lack punching power and that looks his most likely path to victory at 11/2, while a victory via decision is priced at 8/1.
