Tommy Fury v Jake Paul preview: Paul fancied to better Fury

| BY News Team

The American social media star Jake Paul will take on reality TV sensation and professional boxer Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia this Sunday. The bout comes after two cancellations and much talk from both fighters ahead of their long-awaited meeting.

We preview the best of the action below.

Jake Paul

Jake Paul rose to fame on social media and recently turned his interest to the boxing ring. Since joining the profession, Paul has had six bouts, including his debut in 2020, claiming victory on all occasions and winning via stoppage four times, despite the doubt surrounding the infamous YouTuber’s ability.

Paul has predicted a fourth-round stoppage victory against Tommy Fury, and he will enter the ring as the 4/5 favourite. Despite Paul being yet to face an actual professional boxer, he is 9/4 to win by KO/TKO or DQ and is 22/1 to fulfil his prediction of a fourth-round stoppage.

The Problem Child’s first few fights did not pose much of a challenge, but his recent wins over UFC former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva certainly shook the combat sports world.

While both fighters are far past their prime, both possessed good striking ability, and it demonstrated Paul’s ability to not just beat these highly acclaimed fighters but also to knock both of them down, finishing Woodley with a clean knockout.

This fight will be the first real test for Paul, and a victory here would set him up nicely to pursue a real career in boxing and even to potentially start competing against ranked opponents. Will he silence his critics once again?

Tommy Fury

Tommy Fury is a British professional boxer who rose to fame following his appearance on Love Island with his girlfriend Molly Mae-Hague. Fury is the half-brother of undefeated heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, and if he holds just a fraction of Tyson’s ability, then Paul is in for a rough night come Sunday.

Having said that, Tyson also said that he would effectively disown Tommy and force him to change his name if he loses this bout. It’s easy to tell he is feeling the pressure, and given Paul’s comfort in situations like these, it will certainly be a disadvantage for the Brit.

So Fury will head out as the 6/5 underdog, which is curious given his professional record of 8-0 with four knockouts though lots of these bouts were against journeymen. However, his most recent fight was against Daniel Bocianski, who held a record of 10-1 before Fury won via points.

This remains a personal fight for Fury, especially given that Paul revealed that Molly had given birth before the couple could announce the news. If he can channel his frustration into aggression and land some strong right hands, then he may have the power to stop Paul, which is priced at 5/2.

Overall, Tommy’s boxing experience may be superior to Jakes, but it appears that the moment may be too much for him. The judge’s scorecards may be where the fight is decided, with the fight to go the distance priced at 8/11.
