What are Multi-Table Tournaments?

If you enjoy casino games and have a bit of a competitive streak, then multi-table tournaments could be for you. Fast-paced, sometimes intense, and always lots of fun, this evolution from your standard casino games is making waves in the online gaming world.

Imagine a room full of single-table tournaments where all the winners from each table progress through to the next level, like a ‘Champions League’ for gamers. Now imagine how big the prize money at the final table could be! In some cases, serious amounts of money are up for grabs, especially at our big monthly poker tournaments.

What is a multi-table tournament?

A Multi Table Tournament (MTT) is an elimination-style tournament where multiple players across multiple gaming tables all compete until one winner remains!

The tournament begins with multiple virtual gaming tables all competing at once. As more players exit the tournament, the number of tables reduces until there is only one table remaining.

The tournament then finishes with a single winner who takes the main prize, while there are usually prizes based on players’ rankings. Players are ranked according to their finishing position, and the higher your finishing position, the higher your potential share of the prize pot.

How do I sign up for a multi-game tournament?

To get started, you’ll need to be signed into your William Hill account. Once you click on the multi-table option, you’ll be presented with a screen showing information about the tournaments currently open, including the tournament ID, name, game type, the cost to buy-in, the current status and the number of players already registered.

After you’ve browsed for the right type of game and the buy-in/prize pot that catches your eye, select your preferred tournament and additional information will appear in the ‘Table Info’ panel to the right of the screen. This will include how many tournament chips you will receive at buy-in, and what the prizes will be.

If you’re ready to get going, simply click the ‘register’ button. Once you’ve confirmed, a tick sign will appear in the lobby next to the tournament you have entered.

The tournament will start at the time stated in the lobby. Look out for our Super series for extra value four days a week.

Which games are available?

You’ll find the usual casino classics when you join a William Hill multi-table event. As you may expect, poker is one of the most popular multi-table tournament games, as it mirrors the typical poker tournaments you’ll find in real-world casinos.

The best players can test both their skill and endurance as they progress through games and aim to reach the all-important final table.

Multi-table poker tournaments

Of all the casino games, it’s perhaps online poker that lends itself best to the multi-game format. In real-world poker games, like the World Series of Poker, the knockout format is very similar to the multi-table tournament format, so you can get a taste of tournament poker online.

Make sure you clue up on your poker knowledge before entering a tournament. Memorise your poker hand rankings and definitely take a look at our guide to playing poker.

Can I pull out of the tournament once I have registered?

If you decide to unregister for a tournament before it begins, you can do so by highlighting the tournament you’ve entered and clicking the ‘unregister’ button in the ‘Table Info’ panel in the lobby. You cannot unregister once the tournament has started.

How will I know when the tournament is due to start?

When all the seats in the tournament are taken, a pop-up box will appear on your screen telling you to get ready for your first game. Click the “Take me to the tournament” button and you will be seated on the first virtual tournament table.

There may be breaks between each round of games, but you’ll get another reminder to rejoin if you’ve taken a break from the screen.

Tips for playing in multi-table tournaments

  • Remember to put aside enough time to complete the tournament
  • Don’t worry if you’re moved to a different table before a game begins – it’s just the software balancing the games out
  • If you exit at a late stage of the tournament, keep an eye out for further buy-in options to rejoin

How are prizes awarded?

Once the tournament is over the system will automatically credit the accounts of the winners.

You can click on ‘Tournament Information’ to find out the percentage payouts for each place. Once the tournament has started, this will also be shown in the tournament lobby.

What happens if I get disconnected during the Tournament?

If this happens the system will automatically “post and fold” for you. This means that your blinds will be automatically posted when it is your turn to do so, and your hand will be automatically folded when it is your turn to play. This is also handy if you need to take a break, or if you get distracted and forget that you’re still in the game!

What is a freeroll?

Freerolls are tournaments that are free to enter. Rather than paying a buy-in, you place your bets with chips that have no value and battle to finish top of the rankings!

Freeroll multi-table tournaments are great ways of building your skills and confidence and it won’t cost you a penny. You will find these tournaments running every single day under the multi-table tab.

What is an all-in lottery tournament?
