England v India: Test Series Preview, Schedule, Head-To-Head & Squads

England begin a huge few months of Test cricket with a five-match series against India, starting on June 20 at Headingley. In what could be the final chapter of the Bazball revolution, Ben Stokes’ team host a talented India side before heading down under to face the Australians.
Cricket fans worldwide will be surveying the live betting markets throughout this series, as India embark on their first tour without Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma after the duo announced their retirements earlier this year.
England are without Gus Atkinson and Mark Wood through injury, leading to an inexperienced bowling attack around Chris Woakes. Speculation over the role of Jacob Bethell has dominated the build-up to this series, with Ollie Pope’s spot in the most jeopardy.
Head coach Brendon McCullum is confident of England’s chances, however.
“It’s important the guys refresh. We know where we want to get to as a Test team. There are some quality bowlers that are unavailable, but we have a nice, varied bowling attack with Chris Woakes, Sam Cook, Brydon Carse, Jamie Overton, Josh Tongue for the high-pace element.
“We have Shoaib Bashir, who is growing in Test cricket every day. We know we are going to be tested against India, and they will arrive prepared. They’re an outstanding cricketing nation, who will come here with high hopes, and we are looking forward to seeing them.”
What Is The Series Trophy?
England and India competed for the Pataudi Trophy between 2007 and 2022. The hardware has had a rebrand for this year’s series – the teams are competing in the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, honouring two modern greats.
Anderson retired from international cricket last summer and boasted a 25.47 bowling average against India, including some mesmerising new-ball spells.
Speaking at an event soon after the announcement, Anderson said, “It’s a huge honour. I still can’t quite believe it. Sachin is someone I looked up to when I was growing up, though I don’t want to do him a disservice with his age.”
England v India Test Schedule

Head-to-Head Record
India have only won three out of 19 Test series in England. A draw in 2021 – with the Fifth Test played in 2022 – was the first time they have avoided defeat in England since winning the series in 2007.
England lost 4-1 across their five-match series in India a few months ago, following a 3-1 series loss on their previous trip to India. The cricket betting markets inevitably favour the home side for this series with home advantage proving significant throughout this rivalry.
India haven’t won consecutive series against England since 2007 and 2008/09.
