The pinnacle of the darting calendar is nearly here, as 96 players from around the world are readying themselves to take to the Ally Pally stage for the PDC World Championship, but who will take the ultimate prize?

Our blog previews the contenders for the 2025 World Championship of Darts.

The Top of the Market

Where else to start than with the meteoric rise of Luke Littler? He is 2/1 to win the first World Championship of his career and is undoubtedly the form pick. He comes off the back of winning the Grand Slam of Darts, his first TV major, which capped off an illustrious season. It was the World Championship of 2024 that saw him reach the final as an unfancied debutant, and he hasn’t looked back since.

At 2/1, he looks a fair price, but considering he will likely face main market rival Luke Humphries (11/4), or whoever knocks Humphries out in the semi-final, it may be worth considering options at a slightly bigger price from the other side of the draw.

Humphries himself shouldn’t be ruled out at 11/4. The reigning World Champion has had an up-and-down year in terms of form since his Ally Pally triumph, but there’s no reason to believe he can’t go all the way once again. In his last meeting with Luke Littler, at the Players’ Championship Finals, he was victorious, and he holds the edge on the Ally Pally stage as well. It’s difficult to see the finalist from their half of the draw not being one of Littler or Humphries, given their current level of form. Therefore, it may be worth looking at the other side of the draw to uncover some value.

The Other Side of the Draw

The side of the draw without Littler and Humphries looks far more difficult to predict, with several players in great form taking to the oche alongside those with the pedigree to win this event. A player who ticks both boxes here is Gary Anderson, who is priced at 9/1. A two-time World Champion, Anderson’s year has been among his best in terms of his running average and statistics. It would be no surprise to see him making it three World Championships here, so he’s worth backing each way at 9/1.

One that does stand out at a big price is Gerwyn Price at 33/1. The champion of the 2021 World Championship, Price has struggled for form in the last season or so but has shown signs that a comeback might be on the cards here. He could make quotes of 33/1 look very generous. While he has had notable issues with the Ally Pally crowd, it’s clear that he can use that to his advantage, and he is under little pressure heading into the tournament. He’s worth an each-way flyer at that price and could just be the value pick of the tournament.
