Is Gerwyn Price Really Retiring from Darts?

| BY News Team

Gerwyn Price is 10/1 with William Hill to give up PDC Tour Card within the next three years following Luke Humphries loss.

Wayne Mardle has dismissed any suggestion that Gerwyn Price could walk away from professional darts in the near future, after the Welshman’s defeat to Luke Humphries in the World Grand Prix final.

Price was beaten 6-4 by Humphries in Sunday’s final, having led the match 3-0 before the world number two mounted a remarkable comeback. Humphries won six of the following seven sets to claim his second World Grand Prix title and his ninth PDC major.

Mardle believes the former world champion’s disappointment is evidence of the competitive edge that could yet bring him more titles.

William Hill make Price 10/1 to give up his PDC Tour Card within the next three years, but Mardle is confident the Welshman remains driven to continue competing at the sport’s highest level.

Price is third favourite at 12/1 – behind only Luke Littler at 8/11 and Humphries at 5/1 – to win this year’s PDC World Darts Championship.

William Hill’s Darts Ambassador, Wayne Mardle, said: “I don’t think Gerwyn Price will give up. He’s a born winner and was just disappointed after the final.

“He talked about making changes during last week to make sure he wins. He’s desperate to, and I can see him winning more tournaments.

“I even tipped him to win the World Grand Prix final!”

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Gerwyn Price’s World Grand Prix final defeat will be a bitter pill to swallow, but his frustration shows he’s a player who still expects to be competing for and winning the game’s biggest trophies.

“Price is a born winner, and 10/1 for him to give up his PDC Tour Card in the next three years suggests that it would be a surprise to see him step away from the professional game so soon.

“His performance across the week showed he remains a major threat, and he will be eager to return to the oche with the World Championships just a couple of months away.”
