Littler out for revenge

After the darting phenomenon’s debut last year, Luke Littler will be looking to replace his 2024 runners-up medal with the greatest prize in darts and produce a reckoning at Alexandra Palace. The current world number four has been in tantalising form of late, and he’ll be hoping to top off his excellent year with a win at the World Championship, alongside his other achievements such as winning the PDC Grand Slam, Premier League and World Series.

Littler leads all tour card holders with a 102.64 average in his past 200 legs and has broken records across the board with his 2024 performances. Other than Luke Humphries, it’s hard to imagine anyone getting close to Littler as he continues to sparkle on the world stage. The Nuke is priced as our strong favourite at 2/1 but only narrowly shorter than his 2024 conqueror,  Humphries.

Humphries prepares to defend title

2024 World Champion Luke Humphries will head into the tournament with confidence, knowing he holds one over on Littler in the competition after last year’s final. The draw has plotted a potential collision course for both players, with a face-off in the semi-final likely. Humphries is priced behind Littler at 11/4, but as a result of the draw, only one of the two can reach the final.

Winning back-to-back World Championships is no mean feat; only Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis and Gary Anderson have achieved such glory, so Humphries has his work cut out. The world number one tops the order of merit by almost £1 million and a win at the Palace will add another £500,000 to his tally.

The chasing pack

The odds lengthen significantly behind both Lukes, with Gary Anderson (9/1) and Michael van Gerwen (11/1) entering the frame. The Flying Scotsman was drawn into the same bracket as Van Gerwen and suffered a narrow defeat to Littler in the Grand Slam Playoffs, losing 16 legs to 15, but pushing the Englishman to the wire in the process. Fans may be surprised to see Mighty Mike as fourth favourite heading into this year’s tournament, but without a televised win this year, the Dutchman needs to find some form if he is to pick up his fourth World Championship title.

Both players are seasoned veterans when it comes to the end-of-year Championship and have ample experience competing at Ally Pally, with a combined total of 32 appearances.

Honourable mentions

The reigning World Grand Prix Champion Mike De Decker is priced at 25/1 alongside Michael Smith at 28/1. The Belgian recently defeated Bully Boy in the Grand Slam of Darts, in a comfortable 5-0 win.

Former World Champions Gerwyn Price and Rob Cross are priced at 33/1, and both players will hope to summon their previous Palace form in order to challenge the strong favourites.
