PDC World Darts Championship: Cross to reach the quarterfinals?

| BY News Team

As the fourth round of the World Darts Championship draws to a close, we provide our preview of tonight’s evening session to guide you through to the quarterfinals in the New Year.

Check out the best of the action below.

Rob Cross v Chris Dobey

Both Rob Cross and Chris Dobey have performed well thus far in the tournament, with Cross arguably in slightly better form with masterful wins over Scott Williams and Mervyn King, averaging an impressive 99.23 over the former.

Cross will begin the favourite at 1/2, which is no surprise given Voltage’s electric performances so far. The pair have already faced off this year, with Cross narrowly beating Hollywood 11-9 at the World Matchplay in July.

Don’t write off Dobey just yet though, as when in form he can become quite the headache for opponents. Dobey’s performance against two-time winner Gary Anderson was a big improvement on his shaky start against Martijn Kleermaker, and he is 8/5 to come out on top in this matchup.

Michael van Gerwen v Dirk van Duijvenbode

Michael van Gerwen needs little introduction, with the three-time winner clashing with Dirk van Duijvenbode on Friday as the pair battle it out for a spot in the quarterfinals. It seems van Gerwen is untouchable when he is in this kind of form, having won 10 PDC titles in 2022 already, and will come into this matchup as the 1/5 favourite.

Aubergenius is yet to win head-to-head with van Gerwen but is a superb player in his own right, boasting 0.39 180’s per leg over his two matches so far, well above his usual standard. At 7/2 the Dutchman is a longshot here, especially given van Gerwen’s superior experience at this level.

Luke Humphries v Stephen Bunting

Arguably the coin-toss matchup of the evening session. Luke Humphries is the favourite here at 4/9 after a series of promising performances this tournament. Cool Hand Luke even overcame a self-diagnosed flu to score a 4-3 victory over Vincent van der Voort.

However, Stephen Bunting looks a fine underdog at 7/4, having made his mark by upsetting the odds against Dave Chisnall, ending his eight-game losing streak against him with the 4-2 win. The Bullet has a decent record in set play tournaments and could easily outplay his odds here.

Overall, there couldn’t be a better way to finish off the fourth round ahead of the New Year and it is set to be a high scoring affair with over 15.5 180s priced at 10/11, you won’t want to miss this!
