Premier League Darts Night 4 preview: Smith to steal successive victories?

| BY News Team

Following a thrilling week three of the Premier League, we head to Dublin, where Michael Smith will look to assert his authority and claim back-to-back victories.

We bring you all of the latest updates and odds to inform your betting ahead of Thursday night.

Michael Smith v Peter Wright

This looks an uphill battle for Peter Wright, who after three night’s action is yet to claim a win. Michael Smith took the crown last week and will take some beating here at 4/6.

The world champion is in superb form, averaging 100+ in four of his six matches so far and of course coming out victorious last week with a 6-4 win over Dimitri Van den Bergh in the final, after also beating Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton to get there.

Peter Wright however is yet to make his mark on the competition, going 0-3 in the opening games so far. Snakebite has been on decent form, but it just hasn’t been enough to top the elite calibre of players in the Premier League.

Wright’s chances stand at 6/4, but given his nervy start and Smith’s dominance, he may have to wait another week to claim a win unless he can do something special in Dublin. Both athletes will be going full steam, and over 6.5 180s between the pair is priced at 10/11.

Gerwyn Price v Dimitri Van den Bergh

This matchup is sure to send sparks flying. Gerwyn Price claimed victory in Cardiff and edges Dimitri Van den Bergh in the market at 4/7 ahead of their clash in Dublin.

The world number four didn’t have the dream return he will have hoped for following his week two victory, averaging sub-90 last week in a poor performance against Michael Smith. Regardless, the Welshman is the favourite for this fixture and will be confident in his ability to perform.

Van den Bergh has been a joy to watch; last week saw him edge past Peter Wright in the opening match and absolutely dominate Nathan Aspinall with a 6-1 victory, where he averaged a touch over 105 before bowing out to Michael Smith in a well-contested final.

The Belgian star seems good value at 11/8 if he can keep up the stellar performance he delivered last week in Glasgow. But make no mistake, Gerwyn Price is the favourite for a reason, and he will be out to rediscover some form.

Jonny Clayton v Nathan Aspinall

Jonny Clayton has worked up some superb form and is the favourite for this one at 8/11. Nathan Aspinall has also shone at certain stages in the Premier League and won’t make Clayton’s task easy.

Clayton is ranked seventh in the global rankings and is beginning to consistently perform, bettering Chris Dobey 6-1 in the opening game last week as well as averaging 100+ in five of his eight Pro Tour games last weekend.

Nathan Aspinall is the underdog here at 11/10, and this is probably down to his inconsistency over the past couple of weeks. He’s however made it past the quarterfinals in every Premier League night so far, so he may be one to watch.

Either way this matchup ends up going, both men will be sure to put on a show, and with Clayton hitting 180’s at the rate he has so far in the Premier League, over 4.5 180s at 8/13 may be a decent punt.

Chris Dobey v Michael van Gerwen

This is a shot at vengeance for Michael van Gerwen, who suffered a shock defeat to Chris Dobey on the opening night.

Michael van Gerwen is always a contender for the best player in the world, and despite not performing to his usual standards so far in the premier league – getting knocked out in the opening round last week – he remains the largest favourite of the night at 1/3.

Chris Dobey managed to clinch an amazing victory in the final of week one of the Premier League, beating Michael van Gerwen and stunning fans around the world. The question on everyone’s minds: is this a winning formula, or a fluke?

If you do fancy Dobey for another huge upset, he is currently 23/10. The Englishman also comes in at 4/5 to hit the most 180s, and you can’t count out over 5.5 180s at EVS either.
