Premier League Darts Night 5 preview: MVG to continue Four-midable streak

| BY News Team

Night 5 is fast approaching and there are some eye-catching matchups on the roster, with the top two players in the world in Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen facing each other in the opening match.

We preview all four of the matches below.

Luke Humphries v Michael van Gerwen (19:15)

Our first matchup of the evening sees the World number one Luke Humphries up against the World number two Michael van Gerwen. Luke Humphries has not been in consistent form since his World Championship victory, he has lost nine since his final with a win rate of only 40%. Michael van Gerwen, on the other hand, has a win rate of 84% and has played a total of thirty-one matches since his departure in the World Championships.

These two met in the final of night 3, in what was a very eventful closing match where van Gerwen came from 4-2 behind to deny Humphries of his first success in the event. Michael van Gerwen has won the Premier League on all of nights 2, 3 and 4, his confidence is going to be higher than ever, and Luke Humphries’ finishing will have to be top draw in order to get ahead of van Gerwen’s scoring. We feel that van Gerwen’s scoring will be too much so the alternative match treble of, Michael van Gerwen Win Match and Most 180s – Luke Humphries Highest Match Checkout, is the value @6/1.

Nathan Aspinall v Peter Wright (19:45)

The second quarter final features night 4’s finalist Nathan Aspinall, who was back playing his better darts at the oche and will be looking to continue into this week in Exeter. He faces Peter Wright, who has yet to win a match over the first four nights of this year’s Premier League. However, in the week Wright has exclaimed that he could’ve retired, but he’s not done yet and this can be shown through his darts against Littler in his latest attempt. Wright had a three-dart average of 103.37 with six maximums and he is definitely throwing better darts. We are expecting a good game and we are offering Nathan Aspinall Most 180s & Each Player At Least 1 Checkout Over 99 at an enhanced price of 13/2.

Gerwyn Price v Rob Cross (20:15)

The third quarter final will see two players, neither to have really made a big impression on the Premier League this year. Rob Cross has yet to make it to a final and despite reaching the final on night 1, Price has yet to throw his best darts. Cross played well in his quarter final on night 4 and beat World number one Luke Humphries 6-5 despite not hitting a single maximum. His doubling was impressive, hitting 60%, and we think Cross can continue this fine form against another higher rated competitor. Rob Cross To Win & Each Player At Least 1 Checkout Over 99 is an enhanced price of 8/1.

Luke Littler v Michael Smith (20:45)

The final quarter of the evening will see Luke ‘The Nuke’ Littler try to take down Michael ‘Bully Boy’ Smith. Night 4 was full of surprises and some special darts, including Litter reeling in the “Big Fish”. For this to happen again and there to be a 170 check out in the match is 11/1. Both these Englishmen’s darts have been going where they want them to go, and we do not see this game going any differently. These two are the best maximum hitters and highest scorers in the Premier League. For there to be Over 6.5 180s in the match is 4/5 and this looks a very sensible bet.
