Tournament Format and Prize Fund
The Premier League Darts operates in a knockout format, with players competing in best-of-11-leg matches. Points are awarded based on performance, and after 15 weeks, the top four players advance to the semi-finals and finals, which feature a slightly different format. The total prize fund for the tournament is £1 million, with the winner receiving £275,000.
Key Matches and Players to Watch
- Rob Cross vs. Luke Littler: The evening kicks off with a compelling matchup between Rob Cross and reigning champion Luke Littler. Cross enters the contest buoyed by his recent triumph at the Players Championship 1, where he secured an 8-3 win over Joe Cullen in the final and is the longest price of all four games of Night Two at 5/2. However, Littler boasts a strong head-to-head record against Cross, having won eight of their last 10 encounters, including a decisive 6-0 victory in the Players Championship Finals last November. Given Littler’s impressive form and dominance in their previous meetings, he is favoured to advance in this matchup at 3/10.
- Michael van Gerwen vs. Stephen Bunting: Next, Michael van Gerwen faces Stephen Bunting. Van Gerwen, a former Premier League champion, is eager to rebound after a narrow 6-5 loss to Littler in the previous round. Bunting, on the other hand, struggled in his opening match, falling 6-4 to Rob Cross with a subpar performance on doubles. Considering Van Gerwen’s pedigree and recent form, he is expected to secure a comfortable victory and is odds-on at 8/11 to Bunting’s 11/10.
- Nathan Aspinall vs. Gerwyn Price: In a matchup that promises intrigue, Nathan Aspinall takes on Gerwyn Price. Both players have had inconsistent performances recently, with neither advancing past the first round in Glasgow in the past two years. Despite their struggles, Aspinall’s determination to prove his worth in the Premier League could give him the edge here over Price at 13/10, who has shown signs of complacency. This matchup is expected to be closely contested, with Price slightly favoured in the market at 8/13.
- Luke Humphries vs. Chris Dobey: The final match of the evening features Luke Humphries against Chris Dobey. Humphries delivered a dominant performance in the opening night, defeating Dobey 6-1 in the final. Given Humphries’ current form and Dobey’s recent struggles, Humphries is favoured to repeat his success and secure another victory. Dobey is 23/10 to exact revenge on the world number one, who has a significant say in the market at 1/3.
Tournament Favourites
Understandably, Luke Littler is favourite to claim the Premier League title this year at 6/4, following his success in the competition last year as well as his recent PDC Championship title haul. ‘Cool Hand’ Luke Humphries narrowly trails ‘The Nuke’ at 2/1, followed by league-veteran Michael van Gerwen at 5/1. Gerwyn Price, Chris Dobey and Stephen Bunting share odds of 14/1 to emerge as surprise champions, with outsiders Rob Cross and Nathan Aspinall priced 20/1 and 40/1 respectively.
