Arsenal vs Man City odds
The opening weekend’s blockbuster collision sees the defending Premier League champions priced up as 10/11 favourites to win in the Arsenal vs Man City odds, with the Gunners 11/4 to usher in the post-Arsene-Wenger era with maximum points and a sharing of the spoils betting at 7/2.
City are 4/6 to defend their crown ahead of their first fixture of the 2018/19 campaign, while Unai Emery’s men are 22/1 to win the league and 2/1 in the top-four finish betting.
Arsenal vs Man City betting predictions
The saga of Wenger’s managerial dotage has been consigned to the history books and it’s difficult not to sense an air of cautious optimism for the campaign among Arsenal devotees.
A trophy-laden new coach, a handful of interesting new signings and a first full season with Rolls Royce striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the garage will do that to a supporter.
Man City are supposed to lance all that positivity of course, having put three goals past the Gunners in each of the sides’ last three clashes and they’re 11/2 to win in the -2 handicap odds.
Hopes that Emery will turn the tide appear to be tempered by his record against Guardiola in their concurrent four-season spells in charge of Valencia and Barcelona, when he logged zero wins in their 10 meetings.
Yet, examine the ledger more closely and the Gunners gaffer was still able to draw four times with a peak period Guardi-Barca, losing only one of five home games against his opposite number.
The Emirates is no Mestalla in terms of fervent support of course, but, with the exception of City’s most recent visit, it has still proven a tough place for the Manchester club to get a win of late.
While a victory feels too fanciful, given the rude health the Etihad club showed themselves to be in during their Community Shield win over Chelsea and the Arsenal double chance odds of 3/4 look skinny betting, the draw looks worth chancing at a fair price of 27/10.
Prior to City strolling to a 3-0 March win, which felt more like a friendly having come a few days after the sides contested the League Cup final, they hadn’t won away to the Gunners since January 2013.
Key players to watch
Aubameyang has scored 149 top-flight strikes across his spells in England, Germany and France since making his debut for Lille in 2009.
Only eight players have scored more times across Europe’s top five leagues in the intervening years than the Gabonese goal machine, who is 9/2 to be first goalscorer in the Arsenal vs Man City odds.
He has yet to score against City however, whereas the Manchester side’s Sergio Aguero has been a regular source of sorrow for Arsenal since his arrival in the Premier League.
The Gunners are his fifth-favourite team to torment, having afforded him eight goals down the seasons.
Five of those have come inside his last six meetings and, while you won’t get rich backing his anytime scorer odds of 10/11, the 7/2 about him netting the opener in this fixture for the fourth time in seven renewals looks worth further investigation.
