Ballon d’Or Odds: Mbappe nearing favouritism in shock Ballon d’Or betting switch
Kylian Mbappe is closing in on Harry Kane in the Ballon d’Or betting, with William Hill reporting a dramatic shift in support just hours before the winner is announced.
The Real Madrid forward has shortened from 25/1 before the weekend to just 6/5, having been available at 2/1 this morning before further support saw his odds cut to 13/8 and then 6/5 this afternoon.
Kane remains favourite at 8/13 but has drifted from as short as 1/3, with Mbappe emerging as a serious challenger after a late surge in the betting. Lamine Yamal, who had previously looked to be Kane’s main rival, has been overtaken by the Frenchman in the market.

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps said: “We’re now just hours away from the Ballon d’Or being awarded and the betting patterns throughout the day suggest it could be Kylian Mbappe that pips Harry Kane.
“Kane had been a rock-solid favourite at as short as 1/3 and looked to have beaten off his main rival in Lamine Yamal, but it’s the French forward who has emerged as a serious contender.
“As big as 25/1 prior to the weekend, he has shortened considerably over the course of the past few days. He was 2/1 this morning, further supported into 13/8 this afternoon and he has just shortened further into 6/5 for the award.”
