Biggest January Signings so far 2024

| BY News Team

The January transfer window is nearing its final days, but not too many high profile moves have been made as of yet.

Below we run you through the biggest moves of the month so far from across Europe and the rest of the world.

Victor Roque to Barcelona (£25.6m plus £26.4m add-ons)

18-year-old forward Victor Roque from Brazil’s Athletico Paranaense is currently the biggest signing made so far in the January transfer window, with Barcelona snapping him up on a seven-year deal with a €500 million buyout clause. He made his professional debut on 12th October 2021 for Cruzeiro, before signing for Athletico Paranaense on the 13th April 2022. Clearly Xavi has seen something in this talent and will be looking to flip a huge return on the youngster in the years to come – he is certainly one to watch.

He made 60 appearances for the club, hitting the back of the net 21 times, and has since made two appearances for Barcelona, making his debut on 4th January this year where he came on as a substitute in the 78th minute of a 2-1 comeback away from home against Las Palmas. It’s only fitting that in an era of youngsters taking over, that the biggest price tag so far in the January transfer window is attached to a player inundated with potential. Roque joins a roster of impressive talent at Barcelona and will thrive under the tutelage of Robert Lewandoski, growing with other young players such as Joao Felix, Pedri, and Gavi.

Radu Dragusin to Tottenham Hotspur (£21.5m plus £4.3m add-ons)

Tottenham Hotspur snapped up 21-year-old Radu Dragusin from Genoa earlier this month having expressed interest before the New Year. The young centre back was a key member of Genoa’s first team for the first half of the season, having played every minute of their Serie A campaign, scoring twice and assisting once – he also boasts 13 caps for Romania.

Playing alongside Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero will give him a wealth of knowledge and experience but there’s no doubt he’ll be competing for playing time, and once he gets to grips with Postecoglou’s system, will certainly be viable for a starting spot.

Eljif Elmas to RB Leipzig (£20.8m)

Macedonian Eljif Elmas has made the move from Serie A side Napoli who have been struggling this year in comparison to their stellar title-winning season last year, which saw them sixteen points clear of second-place Lazio.

Clearly RB Leipzig saw something they liked and took him off Napoli’s hands for £20.8 million. Although not a record-breaking signing, he should bring something new to Leipzig’s midfield, potentially filling the hole left by Dominik Szoboszlai’s departure at the start of the season. Leipzig will be hoping that this new addition will strengthen their attack to help them chase down Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen as they sit 4th in the league, narrowly ahead of Dortmund and a point behind VfB Stuttgart.

Renan Lodi to Al-Hilal (£19.8m)

The list wouldn’t be complete without a player moving from Europe to Saudi, and this comes in the form of Brazilian defender Renan Lodi who signed for Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal to join the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves, Aleksandar Mitrovic, and of course fellow national teammate Neymar.

Lodi joins the club from Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille who are currently 7th in the league. However, Al-Hilal have been tearing it up this season and Lodi joins them as they sit pretty at the top of the league ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr.
