A 16/1 Build #YourOdds for Chelsea v Spurs

| BY News Team

Premier League leaders Spurs travel across the capital to face Chelsea, as Antonio Conte returns to his former club.

The Lilywhites swept aside Southampton on the opening weekend, coming from 1-0 down to win 4-1. While Chelsea had to dig deep to pick up three points against Everton at Goodison Park.

However, Stamford Bridge hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for Spurs. They’ve won just one of their last 37 away matches against the Blues in all competitions (D12 L24). Will that change as they search for their 100th Premier League London derby success?

Before kick-off at 16:30 on Sunday, you can earn a £5 free bet when you stake £5 using Build #YourOdds. We’ve taken a look at some of the key stats and put together this 16/1 selection.

Over 9.5 Corners

With just one game played, there’s little data to go on but from what last weekend showed corners could be a useful approach.

Both sides are likely to line up with wing-backs, so that should see plenty of width on offer and crosses into the box.

On the opening weekend, no side could match Chelsea’s tally of 16 corners – their game saw 20 in total. While Spurs also hit double figures (10 of 12) in their win over the Saints. A good starting point.

They met four times in league and cup last season, with three of those meetings seeing the corner count hit double figures. Both league meetings did exactly that, seeing 13 and 16 respectively.

And both managers have options in those wing-back positions. Tuchel can call on Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella, while Conte has Ryan Sessegnon, Emerson Royal and Ivan Perisic, so you’d imagine a large proportion of the play to come down both channels.

Over 29.5 booking points

If you’re new to booking points, then we’ll start with an explanation. A yellow card is worth 10 booking points, a straight red is 25 and a red card for a second bookable offence is 35.

Last weekend saw Chelsea collect 20 booking points as they dug deep to hold onto their one-goal advantage at Goodison Park. Meanwhile Spurs saw 30 booking points against Southampton.

Add in referee Anthony Taylor who showed three cards in his opening game and averaged 3.61 yellows per game last season, then we have the perfect mix.

Looking back through previous meetings, the Greater Manchester whistler last oversaw a league fixture between the two sides back in December 2019. Chelsea ran out 2-0 winners in a game with seven yellows and Son Heung-min seeing red.

Emerson Royal to be carded

With cards a leg of this Build #YourOdds then it might be worth adding a player into the mix. Emerson Royal is the one who makes the cut.

The Brazilian wing-back committed more fouls than any other Spurs player last weekend (3), but he managed to escape without a sanction.

Last season saw him commit 28 fouls in 31 Premier League appearances, two of which came in Spurs’ home defeat at the hands of Chelsea. In total he picked up five cautions.

With him playing on the right side, he’s likely to have his hands full dealing with Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling, so Royal’s name is one that referee Taylor could well be putting into his notebook.

Dejan Kulusevski to score

What an impact Dejan Kulusevski made to this Spurs side when he arrived on loan from Juventus in January. The Swede ended the last campaign with five goals and eight assists.

And he opened his account for this season by netting Spurs’ fourth last weekend with a delightful curling effort past Gavin Bazunu.

His overall shooting data from the English top-flight sees 28 shots in 19 matches, 11 of which have tested the opposition goalkeeper.

If someone can exploit the space in behind the Chelsea wing-backs, then Kulusevski is certainly one, and he’s more of an appealing price to find back of the net instead of Harry Kane and Son.

Chelsea v Spurs tips:

  • Over 9.5 corners
  • Over 29.5 booking points
  • Emerson Royal to be carded
  • Dejan Kulusevski to score

A Build #YourOdds bet with those four selections pays 16/1.
