Champions League R16 preview: Will there be more drama as the round of 16 concludes?

| BY News Team

The Champions League round of 16 second legs are set to supply football fans with the iconic drama they live for, and with all of the fixtures balanced on a knife edge, it’s anyone’s guess which they will go.

We preview the best of the action in the second legs this week.

Chelsea v Dortmund, Tuesday – 20:00

The first of our picks is Chelsea vs Dortmund, where the Blues will be looking to make amends for their poor finishing in the first leg that saw the Londoners go 1-0 down in the tie.

They trail but have the advantage of Stamford Bridge in the second leg and will hope to use the ground that has witnessed many nights of European success to their benefit. The odds however are backing Dortmund as the 4/7 favourites to emerge as victors of the tie and 16/5 to win in 90 minutes in London.

Chelsea have had a poor season so far and not many fans across the world will be backing them to find a way to win against a strong Dortmund side that are on the same amount of points as the Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.

However, Chelsea did take a win in their last Premier League game against Leeds and looking at the way they played, they may have finally found a system that works with their squad. That being said, it was only a 1-0 win at home to Leeds and in reality it may take longer to build momentum strong enough to overcome a team like Dortmund.

Chelsea do have some good odds for the match though, with Joao Felix to score first at 7/1 with enhanced odds. Kai Havertz to have over one shot on target in 90 minutes is 5/2 and could offer great returns if the striker starts.

Bayern Munich v PSG, Wednesday – 20:00

This is one of the ties of the round on paper and with both teams at the top of their respective tables, it is sure to be the blockbuster that is being anticipated.

Bayern Munich go into the second leg leading 1-0 after a Kingsley Coman goal put the German side ahead during their visit to the Parc des Princes. Echoing the final of 2019/20, Bayern looked to be the stronger side but only slightly and looking at the odds, it seems they are more in Bayern’s side than before, with the Bavarians the 1/6 favourites to win the tie.

Though it looks like Bayern will go through to the quarter final this season amidst PSG’s internal difficulties, the Parisians are likely to put up a fight and therefore Bayern Munich to win and both teams to score in this second leg offers almost triple returns at 19/10.

PSG are the underdogs and may take a defeat from the 2019/20 winners, but Kylian Mbappe is still the joint favourite to score at any time in the tie alongside Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting at 6/4.

Games of this stature often go to the wire and are won by the finest of margins and that is always on the cards with these two sides. PSG are the favourites to win on penalties at 16/1.

Tottenham v AC Milan, Wednesday 20:00

In this one Tottenham are the side with the disadvantage, trailing 1-0 after an early Brahim Diaz winner in the first leg.

Spurs are the favourites to win this game in 90 minutes at 19/20 but are the underdogs to win the tie at 11/8. This isn’t surprising though when Spurs’ league form is considered as their inconsistency makes it hard to back them fully in any game against a top side, despite taking some good results this season.

AC Milan haven’t had a very good season this term either an find themselves fifth and 18 points off top of the league Napoli. They however have the advantage of a rich history in this competition, but equally could be hampered by a lack of experience in their current team.

This is truly a hard one to predict and it will likely come down to which strike force is on their game on the day, with both sides likely to concede with their leaky defences.

Both teams to score is 17/10 and offers good returns, with Harry Kane over two shots on target, Dejan Kulusevski over one shot on target, and Rafael Leao at least one shot on target offering great odds at 22/1.

Equally,

this could be a very tight one and may go to extra time as both teams low on confidence fail to create very many chances to win the game. Its is 10/1 that Spurs win in extra time and 12/1 to AC Milan win on penalties.
