Lee Phelps’ Champions League Picks: Goals Galore on Wednesday

| BY News Team

Fresh off a William Hill football punter winning £106,000 on a 25-fold acca at the weekend, the Wednesday Champions League games look ripe for favourites at home, prolific scorers and lots of goals.

I’m not going to be as ambitious as that, but I have picked out a few games where over 3.5 goals looks likely, to come up with a treble at just under 8/1:

First up is Barcelona versus Shakhtar and the key here is both teams scoring. The Ukrainian side have goals all over, with Kevin Kelsy rattling a couple in lately. I can see this being an open match and Barcelona having to outscore their opponents to get the win.

Next is Leipzig against Red Star and this is a confident pick with both sides’ games so far in the group featuring four goals, whether they win, lose or draw. They’ve scored over 69 goals between them in all competitions this season so I expect a cracker in Germany.

Finally, Young Boys could be on the end of a heavy loss to Manchester City. I know there’s some negativity around Pep’s men at the moment, which is odd seeing as they’re in pole position in the league and Europe with Erling Haaland back scoring again, but there you go.

The difference between the Premier League and the Swiss league will be there for all to see and with some defensive frailties at the back for the English champions, you may even get a Young Boys’ goal to help along the way. Once again both these teams’ matches have featured four goals so far, so it feels like a group full of goals.
