Tony Incenzo previews Friday’s opening fixture of the 2025/26 EFL Championship season between Birmingham City and Ipswich Town.

EXCITEMENT abounds as our pulsating EFL Championship commences once again this weekend offering matches on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Championship betting for the 2025/26 title winners will focus heavily on freshly relegated clubs Ipswich Town, Southampton and Leicester City due to massive parachute payments.

But newly promoted duo Birmingham City and Wrexham have significantly injected big money into their playing squads too. And there are a number of managerial changes to digest.

Back in the second tier terminating one year away courtesy of winning League One by a massive 19 point margin.

In fact, the Blues cemented promotion with six games to go edging a 2-1 victory at Peterborough United on Tuesday 8th April and eventually accrued 111 points. More recently, striker Kyogo Furuhashi was recruited from Rennes for £10 million.

Ipswich Town Preview

Relegated after finishing 19th in the Premier League. That overshadowed two successive promotions.

Close season signings include Rennes midfielder Azor Matusiwa for £7.8 million. Star striker Liam Delap departed for Chelsea in a £30 million deal.
