Championship Predictions Today – Monday 29th December 2025
WE witnessed thrills and spills galore in feisty EFL Championship action on Boxing Day.
And now straight away, our clubs go again this Monday night. Two big promotion area clashes light up the card. There are also important fixtures affecting the foot of the table.
Will tiredness and injuries kick in? One thing is certain… Championship betting odds provide fascinating reading.
Here are the upcoming pairings I am anticipating most alongside my considered score predictions to guide your football betting…
Coventry City v Ipswich Town
- Kick-off: 6pm
- Rankings: 1st versus 3rd
Coventry City preview – Boasting an eight point cushion because of a four match unbeaten sequence. The Sky Blues are divisional foremost scorers racking up 54 goals.
Unconquered at the Coventry Building Society Arena in 2025/26 amassing nine League victories and two draws. Significantly, 13 points clear of third place.
Ipswich Town preview – Five points off automatic promotion contention reflecting three maximum pointers during five games. Overall it is seven wins among 13 attempts.
However the Tractor Boys must improve on three away EFL victories all season culminating in Boxing Day’s non-scoring stalemate at Millwall.
Score prediction: Roller-coaster 3-3.
Middlesbrough v Hull City
- Kick-off: 7.45pm
- Rankings: 2nd versus 4th
Middlesbrough preview – Eight points below pole position following their disappointing 0-0 home draw against Blackburn Rovers. But still possessing a five points advantage on the chasing Play-Off pack. Only one defeat in six outings since head coach Kim Hellberg’s installation last month.
Hull City preview – Four unbeaten games take the Tigers to within five points of automatic promotion reckoning. Twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at Sheffield Wednesday last time out.
Score prediction: Boro bombastic 4-2.
Millwall v Bristol City
- Kick-off: 7.45pm
- Rankings: 7th versus 6th
Millwall preview – A vital affair in the push for Play-Off participation. The Lions are level on points with their imminent opponents after four matches bereft of winning. Curiously, they hold a minus six goal difference in seventh spot!
Bristol City preview – Travelling to South-East London protecting two consecutive victories. Away form throughout 2025/26 is decent bringing five wins.
Score prediction: Desmond 2-2.
Wrexham v Preston North End
- Kick-off: 7.45pm
- Rankings: 13th versus 5th
Wrexham preview – Five points shy of Play-Off discussions. Their pulsating 5-3 Boxing Day eclipse of visitors Sheffield United terminated a five match winless streak. Wrexham valiantly battled back from 3-1 down to overcome the South Yorkshire side.
Preston North End preview – Six points under second place. Preston enjoy a seven match unbeaten League spree incorporating five draws.
They haven’t lost on the road dating to mid-October.
Score prediction: Wrexham watertight 1-0.
Oxford United v Swansea City
- Kick-off: 7.45pm
- Rankings: 21st versus 20th
Oxford United preview – The U’s sacked boss Gary Rowett on 23rd December due to dismal dividends of one win in 10 games. They subsequently recorded a 2-1 Boxing Day home triumph against Southampton where Craig Short took temporary charge.
It moved them out of the drop zone by virtue of goal difference. Names being mentioned for the permanent dug out replacement include Michael Beale, John Terry, Tony Mowbray, Paddy McCarthy, Liam Manning and Karl Robinson.
Swansea City preview – Four points above their forthcoming hosts who they beat 2-0 down in South Wales earlier this month. That was one of three wins amid the Swans’ past five engagements – all those triumphs at home.
Therefore results picking up beyond the November appointment of Vítor Matos as head coach. Even so, Swansea haven’t won away since a 2-1 success versus Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday 30th September.
Score prediction: Swans shade it 3-2.
Sheffield Wednesday v Blackburn Rovers
- Kick-off: 7.45pm
- Rankings: 24th versus 18th
Sheffield Wednesday preview – Loyal fans are praying their club’s reported takeover is completed soon to hopefully spark an upturn in fortunes.
A total of 18 points deducted by the EFL for financial issues means rock bottom Wednesday slumber with minus 8 points. Hence an insurmountable 30 points to make up in retaining Championship status.
The struggling Owls possess merely one 2025/26 League victory – namely 2-0 away to Portsmouth on Saturday 20th September.
Blackburn Rovers preview – Four points ahead of relegation danger. One win in seven games. Although they’ve won five road trip EFL matches this campaign. Fresh from a gritty scoreless draw at high flying Middlesbrough.
Surprisingly, Rovers’ tally of just 10 away goals conceded is the lowest in the Championship.
Score prediction: Insufferable 0-0.
