ANOTHER full midweek programme is approaching for our ever enticing EFL Championship. Four northern powerhouses continue to lead the way in Championship betting promotion odds. And there is a desperate scramble to avoid that dreaded relegation trap door.

Here are the pairings I am anticipating most alongside considered score predictions to assist your football betting…

Burnley v Hull City

Rankings: 3rd versus 21st

Current Form:

Burnley – Three points off those automatic promotion places and destined for a Championship top half finish. The Clarets haven’t lost in 20 League and Cup affairs whilst cherishing the division’s best defensive rearguard leaking just nine times amidst 31 matches. The previous EFL goal conceded was prior to Christmas 10 games ago! Still unconquered at Turf Moor too.

Hull City – Two wins in four engagements leave the Tigers one point above the drop zone. A decent away return has produced five wins this campaign which is better than some of the Play-Off hopefuls.

Wednesday 23rd October 2024: Hull City 1-1 Burnley

Score prediction: More defensive joy for Burnley 1-0.

Sunderland v Luton Town

Rankings: 4th versus 23rd

Current Form:

Sunderland – Seven EFL fixtures without defeat. Dennis Cirkin’s last minute equaliser maintained their unbeaten home record in the 2-2 draw against Watford on Saturday.

Luton Town – Nine games bereft of winning in all competitions incorporating seven losses. Only one victory on the road to date.

2024/25 Championship Head to Head:

Wednesday 23rd October 2024: Luton Town 1-2 Sunderland

Score prediction: Black Cats rampant 5-2.

Sheffield United v Middlesbrough

Rankings: 2nd versus 7th

Current Form:

Sheffield United – Two points behind the leaders following five League wins during six games.

Middlesbrough – Four defeats in five League and Cup outings. Boro’s previous away success was 1-0 at Hull City on New Year’s Day. They will miss the firepower of 11 goal leading scorer Emmanuel Latte Lath who was sold to Atlanta United for £22.5 million in the transfer window.

2024/25 Championship Head to Head:

Wednesday 23rd October 2024: Middlesbrough 1-0 Sheffield United

Score prediction: Blades buoyant 2-1.

West Bromwich Albion v Blackburn Rovers

Rankings: 5th versus 6th

Current Form:

West Bromwich Albion – Two wins in three matches. Just a solitary home loss all season.

Blackburn Rovers – Four defeats among five EFL games. I watched their 2-1 reverse against Queens Park Rangers from the Loftus Road press box last Tuesday and I felt Rovers were always second best.
