Championship Predictions – Tuesday 20th January 2026
ANOTHER gripping round of EFL Championship action is rapidly approaching in the midweek period.
Although the leaders boast an impressive cushion, a frantic race for our second rung and Play-Off qualification is wide open. And there are bruising battles to avoid relegation. Accordingly, Championship betting is attracting bumper interest.
Here are the upcoming pairings alongside my considered score predictions to guide your football betting…
Coventry City v Millwall
- Kick-off: 7.45pm
- Rankings: 1st versus 4th
Coventry City preview – Six points clear. Furthermore, the Sky Blues are Championship top scorers on 59 goals. They’ve only lost once at home all season which as 2-0 against Ipswich Town on Monday 29th December.
However, Saturday’s 2-1 scoreline over visitors Leicester City was a first maximum pointer in five League and Cup attempts for Frank Lampard’s men.
Millwall preview – A five match unbeaten EFL run sees the Lions three points short of automatic promotion contention. In fact, three League wins from four. This overturns disappointing results leading up to Christmas.
Strangely, Millwall record a minus two goal difference in fourth place though!
Score prediction: Lions laconic 1-0.
Ipswich Town v Bristol City
- Kick-off: 7.45pm
- Rankings: 3rd versus 9th
Ipswich Town preview – Five wins peppering a six match unconquered League and Cup streak take Ipswich two points off second spot.
Plus they protect six consecutive home victories. The Tractor Boys’ solitary 2025/26 EFL defeat at Portman Road came on Tuesday 21st October, 3-0 against Charlton Athletic.
Bristol City preview – Three points under the Play-Off region. A sole win within four League encounters.
Score prediction: Tractor Boys tasty 4-2.
Preston North End v Hull City
- Kick-off: 7.45pm
- Rankings: 6th versus 5th
Preston North End preview – One point behind their imminent opponents. PNE have suffered three defeats across five League and Cup engagements. Ten EFL draws so far is the division’s joint highest tally.
Hull City preview – Five points below second position. Merely one loss in eight matches spanning all competitions. Indeed, five wins amid seven League affairs.
Score prediction: Interminable 0-0.
Sheffield Wednesday v Birmingham City
- Kick-off: 7.45pm
- Rankings: 24th versus 14th
Sheffield Wednesday preview – A total of 18 points deducted by the EFL for financial issues means rock bottom Wednesday slumber on minus 7 points. Hence an insurmountable 35 points to make up in retaining Championship status.
Just one 2025/26 League triumph – namely 2-0 away to Portsmouth on Saturday 20th September. And rumours that veteran playmaker Barry Bannan could be leaving for pastures new this month.
Birmingham City preview – One victory during nine Championship assignments. But the 1-1 draw at Swansea City on Saturday terminated four successive away EFL losses. Even so, they haven’t won on the road in eight League outings.
Score prediction: Wednesday win at last 2-1.
West Bromwich Albion v Norwich City
- Kick-off: 7.45pm
- Rankings: 19th versus 22nd
West Bromwich Albion preview – A vital game affecting the drop zone. West Brom nurse seven defeats across nine EFL matches culminating in three straight reverses.
Former Manchester United coach Eric Ramsay was installed in the Baggies’ hot seat last week and commenced his tenure by going down 3-2 at home to Middlesbrough on Friday night. Albion hover four points ahead of the dreaded dotted relegation line.
Norwich City preview – One point shy of safety after five wins enriched eight games in all competitions. Jovon Makama netted his 13th goal of the campaign to seal Saturday’s notable 2-1 success at Wrexham.
The Canaries haven’t lost away in four EFL contests. USA international striker Josh Sargent continues to be linked with a move elsewhere.
Score prediction: Norwich knees-up 2-0.

- Oxford United v Queens Park Rangers prediction: 1-1.
