Tony Incenzo previews Sunday’s contest between Ipswich Town and Southampton ahead of the second weekend of the 2025/26 EFL Championship season.

THE opening weekend of EFL Championship combat featured truly fascinating results.

Some teams definitely hit the ground running which Championship betting patterns predicted. Yet other sides have room for improvement in the fledgling divisional table.

Our upcoming second round of fixtures is spread across Saturday and Sunday. So what can we expect? Here is my take on Sunday’s contest involving two clubs recently relegated from the top flight, alongside my considered score prediction to guide your live betting

Ipswich Town vs Southampton Odds

Punters can bet on Ipswich v Southampton at William Hill and here is the current state of the market:

  • Ipswich – 21/20
  • Draw – 12/5
  • Southampton – 12/5

Ipswich Town Preview

Taking on a team they were recently relegated from the Premier League alongside.

A low sidefooted George Hirst penalty on 95 minutes gave Ipswich their 1-1 draw at Birmingham City last Friday amidst the Tractor Boys’ first engagement back in the Championship.

Southampton Preview

The dramatic 2-1 home success over Wrexham incorporated last gasp strikes by Ryan Manning (90 minutes) and Jack Stephens (90+6 mins).

Manning’s curling 30 yard left footed free-kick was the best EFL Championship goal I’ve seen so far. He also crossed for Stephens to fire the decisive second in off the crossbar.

Incidentally, Southampton picked up four points from two encounters with Ipswich Town in 2024/25.

Ipswich v Southampton score prediction: Wednesday defiant 0-0.
