Big Guns Keep Pace At Top Of EFL Championship Table On Saturday
WHILST digesting Thursday’s massive news where EFL clubs voted to increase the Championship Play-Offs from four to six teams starting next season, we approach another weekend of vital fixtures.
Promotion, Play-Off and relegation issues are all under the spotlight. Accordingly, Championship betting interest is reaching fever pitch.
Here are the upcoming pairings alongside my considered score predictions to assist your football betting…
Hull City v Millwall
- Kick-off: 12.30pm
- Rankings: 5th versus 4th
Hull City preview – Two points behind Saturday’s opponents. The Tigers nurse four defeats across six outings in all competitions.
Millwall preview – Four points beneath the automatic promotion rungs after five maximum pointers from their last seven Championship outings. The Lions won their past three EFL road trips. Going well now, they haven’t graced the top flight of English football since 1990.
Score prediction: Lions large it up 2-0.
Bristol City v Coventry City
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 10th versus 1st
Bristol City preview – Three losses during four League and Cup affairs. Thus trailing Play-Off discussions by seven points. Championship home 2025/26 returns are mixed – seven wins, four draws, seven defeats.
Coventry City preview – Enjoying a five point leadership cushion. Preceding wobbly form has been discarded in favour of four straight Championship wins capping five games unconquered. The Sky Blues remain our second tier’s foremost scorers racking up 72 goals.
Score prediction: Coventry cordial 3-1.
Ipswich Town v Leicester City
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 3rd versus 22nd
Ipswich Town preview – Tuesday night’s 1-0 success against visitors Hull City took the Tractor Boys to three points off second place holding a game in hand. It cemented three consecutive Championship victories without conceding.
Their sole home defeat throughout 2025/26 arrived on Tuesday 21st October, 3-0 versus Charlton Athletic. Incidentally, the Hull result meant Kieran McKenna became Ipswich’s fastest manager to attain 100 wins thereby beating the previous record set by Alf Ramsey.
Leicester City preview – One point short of safety following a dismal 10 match winless slump spanning all competitions which incorporates seven defeats.
Their situation is compounded via six points deducted for breaching English Football League financial rules. The Foxes’ last away Championship victory was in early December.
Score prediction: Ipswich run amok 5-0.
Sheffield United v West Bromwich Albion
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 13th versus 21st
Sheffield United preview – Hovering mid-table but upwardly mobile courtesy of five wins among eight EFL encounters. I was in the Matrade Loftus Road press box for last Saturday’s 2-0 victory against Queens Park Rangers.
I felt the Blades were good value, pressed as a rigid pack and retained possession very well. If they can continue current fortunes then a late sprint to the Play-Off banquet isn’t out of the question.
West Bromwich Albion preview – A point above the dreaded dotted relegation line. Albion have failed to win over 11 League games played beyond the turn of the year.
It was confirmed on Wednesday that interim boss James Morrison will stay in charge until the summer. Meanwhile, winger Mikey Johnston is ruled out for several weeks due to an ankle stress fracture.
Score prediction: Blades stay sharp 3-1.
Championship Score Predictions Saturday:
- Blackburn Rovers v Portsmouth 0-0.
- Charlton Athletic v Birmingham City 2-3.
- Derby County v Sheffield Wednesday 7-0.
- Swansea City v Stoke City 1-1.
