West Ham opened at 9/4 to win the division but have since shortened to 13/8 following confirmation that club captain Jarrod Bowen and head coach Nuno Espirito Santo will remain at the London Stadium.

Wolves are next in the betting at 5/1, with Middlesbrough priced at 9/1 and Burnley at 11/1.

Despite being outsiders compared to the leading contenders, Middlesbrough are currently the best-backed team in the outright market, accounting for 12% of all bets.

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “Ahead of the start of the 2026-27 EFL season, we can report that West Ham are the shortest-priced team to win the Championship in recent memory.

“The Hammers had opened at 9/4 to top the division but with club captain Jarrod Bowen and coach Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed to be staying, they’ve tumbled to odds of 13/8.

“The 46-match campaign is no foregone conclusion, however, with fellow relegated side Wolves trailing in the betting at 5/1. Middlesborough (9/1) are our best-backed side taking 12% of all outright bets, while Burnley are 11/1.”
