William Hill News tipster @Footy_Tipster previews Thursday’s EFL Cup action between Chelsea and Luton Town.

Our Prediction: Chelsea To Win & 4+ Match Goals (13/10), Chelsea 4-1 Luton Town (12/1)

Chelsea return to Stamford Bridge on Thursday night for Xabi Alonso’s first home match in charge, looking to build on Monday’s thrilling 3–2 Premier League win away at Fulham and extend their strong domestic cup record against lower‑league opposition.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some EFL Cup odds and betting angles for Thursday’s fixture:

Chelsea v Luton Town – Thursday, 7.30pm

  • Chelsea have turned to Xabi Alonso as the man to potentially get them challenging again in the Premier League, and he’s certainly been backed during the summer transfer window, splashing around £300million to strengthen his squad and reshape the team in his image.
  • His side made a really good start to their domestic campaign with a 3-2 victory against rivals Fulham on Monday night, they looked the real deal going forward but once again, they tend to give up goals, something that will worry Chelsea fans.
  • The Blues have won the EFL Cup on five occasions but their last success in this competition came back in 2015, without any European football this season, a domestic treble will be the dream for Alonso and co, they welcome Luton on Thursday as the heavy 2/11 favourites with William Hill.

  • Luton travel to west London having started the season unbeaten, they’ve taken four points from a possible six and beat Gillingham 3-0 in the previous round to set up this clash with Premier League opposition.
  • The Hatters have won this competition themselves back in 1987/1988, beating Arsenal 3-2 in the final but they’ve struggled in recent years, reaching the third round just once in their last five attempts.
  • Given Luton Town are playing their football in League One right now, it’s no surprise to seem them as the big underdogs at Stamford Bridge, if punters fancy an EFL Cup upset, Jack Wilshere’s side can be backed at 12/1 to win this with William Hill.
