Dean Jones’ Transfer Rumours: Henderson eyeing Premier League return?

| BY News Team

We are in week two of the January transfer window and it has thrown up some intriguing confirmed deals already. Tottenham are the club making waves with agreements for Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin, that should set them up nicely for the second half of the season.

Here at William Hill we continue to break down big transfer rumours that are unfolding and this week we address focus around Jordan Henderson’s Saudi Arabian problems, Conor Gallagher’s Chelsea verdict and Borja Majoral’s surprising Arsenal link…

Jordan Henderson

More money, new problems? Henderson wants to return to Europe and he is likely to get his wish as he looks to become one of the most high profile transfers of this window.

He will have to sacrifice some wages to make it happen but that is fine – he is ready to find a side with a playing style that suits him, playing in a league that is at a competitive level to prime him for Euro 2024.

His Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq will need to be approached to let him go, and Henderson is going to have to address that issue himself with the club that pay him so handsomely.

A move to a club on the continent might be more likely than a switch to the Premier League because of tax implications, but half the English top-flight have been made aware of his situation incase they fancy it. Ajax lead the discussion but Arsenal fancy a midfielder on loan, could they be tempted?

Conor Gallagher

It’s decision time! For months we have been hearing about Gallagher’s on-off contract talks and the fact he could leave Chelsea because their owners see his sale as a sensible way to help them meet FFP requirements.

That is not good news for Mauricio Pochettino, who keeps reiterating internally that he wants Gallagher to stay. And it’s not good news for the player, because he wants to stay too.

But his contract expires in 18 months and if he does not pen a deal soon then his resale value plummets. And in Chelsea’s world that is considered a disaster.

Tottenham can not believe that Gallagher might genuinely arrive on the market and in the next week they will seek clarification on his position. If he’s up for sale, they really do see him as the perfect fit for their midfield model.

Borja Mayoral

False Hope? There have been a couple of rogue stories recently that might have given Arsenal fans some level of expectation that a new signing was on the way.

First were the stories that Everton had been approached over a deal for midfielder Amadou Onana. There is some interest, but there just isn’t an active pursuit. The second surprise story emerged on Thursday morning as the Gunners were linked with a £22million move for Getafe forward Mayoral.

At the moment any such move must be in the early stages, as even sources close to the player are in the dark over it. And the information out of Arsenal is that Financial Fair Play limitations are so tight that even a deal at that level would be a stretch.
