Euro 2024 Predictions
The UEFA Euro 2024 tournament will take place in Germany this summer, it’s the seventeenth edition of this competition and it’ll be played between the 14th June and 14th July in ten stadiums across ten different cities. The competition is made up of twenty-four teams, each team will participate in a group with three other nations and they’ll be six groups, the winners, runners-up and the best four third-placed teams will advance from the group stages and into the round of sixteen, where it’ll then become knockout football.
In this Euro 2024 Odds preview, I will be looking at which team look’s likely to win the competition, which player will steal the show and claim the Golden Boot award, the surprise package and my Euro predictions and tips.
Euro betting tips – Group Stage
Group A Predictions
First up, we’ve got Group A. This group will see the hosts Germany come head-to-head with Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland. Julian Nagelsmann already had a huge task ahead of him with this German side but with the added pressure of this tournament being played on home soil, it’s so important for Germany to get off to a winning start against Scotland on the 14th June in Munich.
Scotland appointed manager Steve Clarke in 2019 and since then, the Tartan Army have qualified for back-to-back Euros. They finished runners-up in their qualifying group after winning five of their eight games, in a group that contained Spain and Norway, despite not winning a game at the Euros since 1996, this is a confident side and they’ll be looking to cause a bit of an upset in this group.
This is Hungary’s third Euro tournament in a row, the Magyars finished bottom of their group in Euro 2020 but the group had been labelled the “group of death” by many, but they qualified for this tournament by topping their qualifying group.
Switzerland will be looking to cause another upset like they did in Euro 2020, beating one of the football betting favourites France on penalties to reach the quarter-finals, Murat Yakin will be hoping his side can something similar here.
The betting market suggests that Germany will top the group, a close second between Hungary and Switzerland with Scotland favourites to finish last, I think that’s about right but i wouldn’t be surprised if Scotland just pip Hungary to third place.
Game of the Group:
Germany v Scotland (14th June, Munich)
Group B Predictions:
Group B of Euro 2024 will consist of Spain, Croatia, Italy and Albania, with the first games taking place on the 15th June in Berlin and Dortmund.
Spain head into this tournament after finishing top of their qualifying group, having won seven of their eight games. Luis de la Fuente will be hoping his side can make it a record four-time winners of a Euro tournament.
Croatia finished runners-up in their group but only by a point, they’ve made it through into the round of 16 in their last two appearances, along with being runners up in the 2018 World Cup and third-place in the 2022 WC.
Reigning champions Italy scraped through into the automatic qualification after the controversial goalless draw against Ukraine. Head coach will Luciano Spalletti will be hoping to follow in Roberto Mancini’s footsteps and take his Italian side all the way.
Albania made their Euro finals debut in 2016 and after failing to make the cut in 2020, they are back for their second appearance after finishing first in their qualifying group.
Within the Euro 2024 betting tips, the odds suggest Spain will finish first, Italy in second, Croatia and third and Albania to finish rock bottom. I’d agree with that but it’ll be close between Italy and Croatia for the second place.
Game of the Group:
Spain v Italy (20th June, Gelsenkirchen)
Group C Predictions:
Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia and England all make up Group C, the first games will kick off on the 16th June in Stuttgart and Gelsenkirchen respectively.
After a fourteen absence from any major international tournament, Slovenia are back after finishing runners-up to Denmark in their qualifying group, albeit both sides finished on the same points.
Denmark topped their qualifying group on head-to-head points, winners of this competition in 1992, they’ll be looking to shock the rest of Europe here again with something similar.
Serbia will be looking to make a statement in this tournament after a long absence, finishing second in their qualifying group, Dragan Stojkovic will hope his side can make it through Group C.
England will make it eleven Euro finals appearances here, runners up in 2020 gave the English their highest ever finish in the competition, they qualified with an unbeaten record and will be looking to go all the way this time.
I think England will win this group but I’m going to go against the Euro odds here, I think Serbia will pip Denmark to second with Slovenia finishing bottom.
Game of the Group:
Denmark v England (20th June, Frankfurt)
Group D Predictions:
We’ve got another competitive group here, with Poland, Netherlands, Austria and France making up Group D. The first games will kick off on the 16/17th June in Hamburg and Dusseldorf.
Poland secured their place in the Euro finals via the play-offs, beating Wales on penalties gave them a spot in their fifth finals, they failed to get out of the group stage in 2020, they’ll be hoping for more success here.
The Netherlands, winners of this competition in 1988, booked their place into their eleventh finals after finishing runners-up to France in their qualifying group.
Ralf Rangnick’s Austria side are looking to qualify from this tough group and make it into the round of 16, just like they did at Euro 2020.
Second favourites to win the competition, France will be looking to claim their third Euros trophy but they’ll need to improve on their last attempt at Euro 2020, where they only reached the round of 16.
One of the harder groups to predict and give euro betting tips, I’ve got to agree with what the current odds are suggesting, France to top it, Netherlands to finish second, with Austria close in third and Poland to finish last.
Game of the Group:
Netherlands v France (21st June, Leipzig)
Group E Predictions:
Group E will include Belgium, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine as they battle it out to reach the round of 16, with the first games taking place on 17th June in Munich and Frankfurt.
Belgium have made it to the quarter-final stage in their last two Euros but more recently failed to get out of their group at the 2022 World Cup.
This will be a third appearance in the finals as an independent state for Slovakia, they finished third in their group in Euro 2020 and failed to make it into the next round.
Romania failed to qualify for Euro 2020 but they made no mistake this time, topping their qualifying group with an unbeaten record, they’ll be dreaming of repeating their Euro 2000 heroics where they reached the quarter-finals.
Ukraine could count themselves unlucky in terms of not qualifying automatically but they booked their spot in the end thanks to a victory over Iceland in the play-offs, this will be their fourth finals appearance.
Belgium are clear favourites to finish top and then it’s a lottery, I think it’s going to be a tight group between the remaining three sides, but Ukraine, Romania and Slovakia in that order.
Game of the Group:
Ukraine v Belgium (26th June, Stuttgart)
Group F Predictions:
Group F will contain Turkey, Georgia, Portugal and Czech Republic, the first games will kick off on the 18th June in Dortmund and Leipzig.
Turkey will compete in their sixth finals after topping their qualifying group ahead of Croatia, the 2008 semi-finalists will be hoping and dreaming of going one step further sixteen years on.
Georgia will be the only debutants at this year’s competition after defeating Euro 2004 winners Greece in the play-offs.
Portugal will be hoping they can add a second Euros trophy, the 2016 winners won all ten of their qualifiers and were the only team to finish the campaign with a 100% record.
Czech Republic finished Euro 2020 as quarter-finalists, they finished second in their qualifying group on head-to-head points behind Albania.
Portugal should top this group fairly comfortably given the quality in their squad, then I think Turkey will finish second with Czech Republic in a close third, debutants Georgia to finish bottom.
Game of the Group:
Turkey v Portugal (22nd June, Dortmund)
Euro 2024 Winner Prediction
The Euro 2024 winner odds suggest it’ll be either France or England that will lift the trophy in Berlin on the 14th July. Germany will fancy themselves on home soil though, Julian Nagelsmann’s side looked to have turned a corner with recent victories over France and the Netherlands leading up to this tournament, but you feel dealing with the pressure will play a huge part in this competition.
For the talent that England have in their squad, it’s understandable why they are the current favourites for the competition but they always seem to just fall short, including Euro 2020, where they were beaten on penalties to Italy at Wembley. The lack of major success since 1966 must have a psychological effect, this group of players really need to believe in their talent if they want to win this tournament.
France come into the tournament off the back of a World Cup final in 2022, they’ll be looking to take a similar squad that lost out to Argentina in Qatar, the quality that Didier Deschamps has at his disposal is frightening. I have them up there with England as two of the best group of players in Europe right now but I’ve got to give France the edge here purely down to the fact they’ve been in a recent final and the man in charge has a lot of experience in these major finals, I think that’s the difference right now, so I think France will win Euro 2024.
Top Goalscorer Euro 2024 predictions:
There’s plenty of talented goalscorer’s heading to Germany this summer but the top five favourites to win the golden boot are Kylian Mbappe (France), Harry Kane (England), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Jude Bellingham (England) and Olivier Giroud (France). Of course, the winner of the golden boot is likely to be somebody that will be participating in the latter stages of the competition, I think Harry Kane will be the top goalscorer in this competition, I feel like he’ll thrive in Germany given it’s where he plays his club football and he’s had a record-breaking season in terms of goals for Bayern Munich. The Euro 2024 top goalscorer odds suggest the English striker is second favourite to win the golden boot but he get’s my vote here.
Tournament Dark Horses:
My dark horses for Euro 2024 are Austria, they are in what many have labelled the group of death (France, Netherland & Poland). Yes, it’s unlikely that they’ll win the group but a second or third finish isn’t out of the question, they’ve got many talented players but also an experienced coach with a style of play that his players have really bought into, they’ve lost just once in their last fourteen games, a narrow defeat to Belgium and beat teams such as Germany and Turkey in that brilliant run, they are going to be a fun side to watch.
