This week, we turn our focus to sides from England and Scotland in the UEFA Europa League, starting in Budapest with Ferencvaros welcoming Rangers at 5.45pm, whilst kicking-off at the same time in the Netherlands, Nottingham Forest will take on Utrecht.

Later on Thursday evening, Aston Villa travel to Switzerland to face Basel whilst Celtic take on AS Roma with just two points separating the two sides.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some Europa League odds and betting angles for Matchday six fixtures:

Ferencvaros v Rangers – Thursday, 5.45pm

Punters can bet on Ferencvaros v Rangers with William Hill

  • After five games so far in the UEFA Europa League, Ferencvaros are just one of just four sides in the league phase that are yet to suffer defeat, with Robbie Keane’s side picking up eleven points from a possible fifteen so far (W3, D2).
  • FTC welcome Rangers on Thursday night fresh off the back of three consecutive wins in their domestic league campaign, whilst they’ll be looking to utilise their home advantage here given they’ve won five of their least six UEL home matches (D1).
  • The Greens have now moved to the top of their domestic league with their recent form and will be looking for another victory in this one to put them on their way to automatic qualification, nine of their last eleven games have produced at least three goals.
    ——————————–
  • Rangers enter Matchday six of this UEFA Europa League campaign sat in thirty-third place after picking up just one point from their first five outings (D1, L4), that draw came against the ten men of Braga and time is running out for the Gers if they are to snatch a play-off spot.
  • The good news for Rangers and Danny Rohl is the fact they are now unbeaten in their last six games across all competitions (W3, D3) but their recent away form in Europe has been a big concern, having lost each of their last four away European away games.
  • Rangers haven’t scored more than once in their last eight European games and given the home form of Robbie Keane’s side, i think the Gers could be in for another disappointing encounter on their travels.

Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Ferencvaros To Win, Ferencvaros 2-1 Rangers.

Utrecht v Nottingham Forest – Thursday, 5.45pm

Punters can bet on Utrecht v Nottingham Forest with William Hill

  • Utrecht welcome Nottingham Forest in hope of picking up their first UEFA Europa League victory not only of this campaign, but their first in their last sixteen attempts which dates back to September 2004, the longest-ever winless run for a Dutch side in a European competition.
  • Utreg could be eliminated from this UEL competition on Thursday if they don’t manage to pick up all three points, with just one point so far and with Maccabi Tel Aviv the only side to score less than their two goals so far, it’s been another poor campaign.
  • Despite scoring just two goals so far, Ron Jans’ side have scored in each of their last six home games in all competitions but you feel a step up against Premier League opposition will be too much for the Dutch side.
    ——————————–
  • It’s been an up and down start to December for Nottingham Forest, starting the month well with a 1-0 victory against Wolves was then followed up with a very poor display at Everton losing 3-0, this is Forest’s third away game in a row.
  • Sean Dyche’s side have got themselves in a good position though in the UEFA Europa League, unbeaten in their last three outings means the Tricky Tree’s are now just two points off the top eight and those precious automatic qualification places.
  • None of Nottingham Forest’s last six away games have seen both teams on the scoresheet, i’m going to back the Premier League side to win this one but it’ll be a fairly tight affair.

Prediction: Nottingham Forest To Win To Nil, Utrecht 0-1 Nottingham Forest.

Basel v Aston Villa – Thursday, 8pm

Punters can bet on Basel v Aston Villa with William Hill

  • Basel are holding the last play-off spot as we enter Matchday six and will be hoping to climb up the table on Thursday with their UEL form, having not lost here since October 2015 in this competition (D8, D2).
  • Ludovic Magnin’s side also hold the longest current home victory streak in this competition, with wins in each of their last seven UEL games played at St. Jakob-Park, so they’ll be a tough opposition for Villa.
  • It’s also a fixture that could provide us with some goals on Thursday night, with four of Basel’s last five games in all competitions producing both teams to score, they’ve also seen their last two outings in this competition produce at least three goals.
    ——————————–
  • Aston Villa have well and truly made up for that awful start to the campaign having now lost just two of their last fifteen games in all competitions (W13), whilst they’ve won each of their last seven outings combined in both the Premier League and the UEL.
  • The slight concern for Unai Emery’s side is their away form in this competition, with the Villans winning just one of their last six UEFA Cup/UEL away fixtures (D1, L4), although that did come away to Feyenoord back in October.
  • Villa should also play their part in making this one a potential goal-fest, given they’ve kept just one clean sheet across their last eight competitive away games, whilst four of their last five away games have seen three or more goals.

Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Over 2.5 Goals, Basel 1-2 Aston Villa.

Celtic v Roma – Thursday, 8pm

Punters can bet on Celtic v Roma with William Hill

  • Life as the new Celtic manager couldn’t have got off to a worse start for Wilfried Nancy after seeing his side lose at home to fellow title contenders Hearts on Sunday, not ideal preparation for the visit of Roma.
  • The Bhoys are on their way to securing a play-off spot but it’s so tight right now, with Celtic just three points off eighth spot but also just a point from dropping out of the top twenty-four, so this one is a big game under the lights.
  • This is a first meeting between these two historic clubs but Celtic’s record against other Italian sides isn’t great, with just two win from their sixteen meetings (D4, L10), four of the last five have ended in stalemates.
    ——————————–
  • Roma had found some real form having won four games in a row, two of which came in this competition including a trip to the other side of Glasgow to against Rangers. However, they head to Celtic Park off the back of two 1-0 defeats against Napoli and more surprisingly against Cagliari.
  • No side has beaten both Rangers and Celtic away from home since the 2012/2013 season, Roma have the chance to take that record on Thursday night, they’ve won seven of their last nine away games so it’s quite possible.
  • Gian Piero Gasperini won this competition with Atalanta and will be hoping to bring more European success to Roma, his side haven’t conceded more than once in any of their last ten away games, this is an intriguing fixture.

Prediction: Roma To Win, Celtic 0-1 Roma.
