Europa League/Europa Conference League preview: Can West Ham and Rangers overcome first leg defeats?

| BY News Team

Liverpool confirmed their place in the Champions League final on Tuesday night. Now, three more British teams will be aiming to join Jürgen Klopp’s men in the hunt for European silverware.

West Ham and Rangers are both looking to progress to the Europa League final while Leicester City could make history by competing in the first ever Europa Conference League final.

Eintract Frankfurt v West Ham

David Moyes’ team are by no means out of this tie, despite losing the home leg 2-1. The

Hammers are competing in a European semi-final for the first time since 1976, with the dream of lifting their first `European silverware since the famed team of 1965.

West Ham’s last 10 games have only provided the fans with two wins, coming in the Europa semi-final with a thrilling extra-time win over Sevilla, and the other at the expense of Frank Lampard’s relegation-threatened Everton.

Their league form has certainly suffered as of late, leaving them in a fight with Man Utd & Wolves for a place in Europe, whether that be Europa League or Europa Conference League. West Ham will be dreaming of something bigger of course, with a Europa League victory bringing Champions League football to the London Stadium. With one eye on European glory, are all of Moyes’ eggs in one basket? The Hammers are 5/2 to qualify for the final, with Frankfurt 2/7 favourites.

Two goals for Frankfurt in the first leg means West Ham will be hungry to take the game to the Germans. Jarrod Bowen is at the boosted price of 8/1 to score first, while you can back Jarrod Bowen & Michail Antonio on over 3 shots on target combined at 9/2.

Rangers v RB Leipzig

Rangers welcome Leipzig to Ibrox with a one-goal deficit, but this isn’t the first time that the Glasgow club have had overcome the odds to shock a German club this season.

Football fans across Europe were left astounded as Rangers secured a 4-2 victory over German giants Borussia Dortmund to book their place in the quarter-finals. That victory will have given Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men the belief that they can do anything in this competition, and more importantly, it will have given the fans something to make some noise about. Ibrox has become a fortress for Rangers this season, losing one league game at home all season.

Rangers’ performance in the first leg will also give them some hope. Despite missing key players through injury, the Gers managed to push on with a defensive display that kept them in the tie, even if they ultimately came unstuck in the 85th minute. Things could have been worse, and now they have that home advantage to push forward for the victory. They are a 5/2 chance to secure victory at Ibrox and 7/2 to make it through to a first European final since 2008.

With Kemar Roofe facing a late fitness test, Rangers may be looking for goals from other candidates. Fashion Sakala to score first is now available at an enhanced price of 7/1, while Juventus loanee Aaron Ramsey is 8/1 to open the scoring.

Roma v Leicester City

After a 1-1 first leg draw in England, everything is up for grabs, including a historic spot in the first-ever Europa Conference League final, as Leicester travel to Rome.

Jose Mourinho, with so much pedigree in Europe, has found himself in unchartered territory. Playing in the third tier of European football is not normally his scene, but the Europa Conference could be a very handy route back into European competition next season. Roma have seemingly let things slip in the last month, with their only victory in their last 5 games coming against Bodo Glimt in the previous round of the competition.

Making this tie into a potential blockbuster is the old mentor-and-student storyline that goes with any match-up between Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers. Over the years, the two have sat in opposing dugouts nine times, with Rodgers only securing a single victory over Mourinho, during the Portuguese’s stint as Tottenham manager.

Both managers may be relying on English talent to get them through this one. Tammy Abraham has been a revelation for Roma this season, finding the net 15 times, and is 7/5 to do so again. Rodgers will be hoping that Leicester legend Jamie Vardy can shake off some recent injury issues to fire his club to the final.

Roma are favourites to qualify at 4/7 while Leicester can be backed at 5/4.

With both teams chasing goals, you can back Tammy Abraham Over 2 Shots On Target & Jamie Vardy Over 2 Shots On Target at a massive 50/1.
