Outright winner
Despite the Europa League being a step down from the Champions League, the top of the outright market still contains several teams that wouldn’t look out of place in the latter stages of Europe’s premier competition, showing the quality on offer in the Europa League this season.
The market is headed by two English sides in Tottenham and Manchester United, who are only split by half a point at 9/2 and 5/1 respectively. Both sides deserve their spot at the head of the market, and you wouldn’t be surprised to see either team lifting the trophy come the end of the season.
However, the preference must be for Tottenham at this point. They look far more settled than their English counterparts and now may finally be the time they can secure a major trophy. Their signing of Dominic Solanke has gone a long way towards filling the Harry Kane-sized void left by his departure to Bayern Munich, if he can get firing then they will be one of the most dangerous sides in the competition.
Manager Ange Postecoglou was very strong in an interview following their 1-0 North London Derby defeat to Arsenal, stating that he always wins something in his second season and the Europa League looks a great chance for Tottenham to continue that trend.
League winner/Top 8 finish
The format for all three major European competitions has undergone drastic change this season, with a new league format introduced with all 32 teams involved. Each team will play eight games in the league format with the top eight qualifying automatically for the knockout stages and the teams placed from 8th-24th going into a playoff to fill the other eight knockout places to form the last 16.
With William Hill, you can bet on the eventual winner of the league as well as a team to finish within the top eight of the league. One team that appeals at the prices is Real Sociedad who are 10/1 to win the league and 8/13 to finish inside the top eight.
Despite a difficult start to the season for them domestically, the quality in the team makes it hard to see them not turning it around at some point. They retained Martin Zubimendi in the summer despite strong interest from Liverpool and have signed Nayef Aguerd from West Ham, who looked one of the better centre-backs in the Premier League during his time there. They face Nice in their first game, which looks tough, before facing Anderlecht and Maccabi Tel-Aviv in their next two games which looks easier on paper.
