Euro 2024: Who will be top scorer?

As we hurtle towards the start of this summer’s European Championship and nations across the continent begin to release their squads, people will be chancing their arm in the popular top goalscorer market, awarded to the player who racks up the most goals across the tournament.
There appear to be two major favourites for the award this summer, but we break down the four likeliest candidates in the betting to top the charts in Germany next month.
Kylian Mbappe – 5/1
The first of those two big favourites is of course French superstar and PSG captain Kylian Mbappe, who currently leads the market at 5/1 to add the European Championship Golden Boot to his ever-growing list of individual accolades.
Mbappe certainly needs no introduction on the international stage and already has a FIFA World Cup Golden Boot to his name, but he’ll be wanting to add a Euros title to the cabinet ahead of his worst-kept-secret transfer to Real Madrid in the summer.
Harry Kane – 11/2
The other half of the highly-fancied duo to record the most goals in this summer’s tournament is England’s Harry Kane, who has taken his remarkable goalscoring talents to the next level after racking up 36 goals in 32 games in his first season in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
While the former Spurs striker was the butt of all jokes for somehow failing to win a trophy with the Bavarian side, extending his trophy-less career by another 12 months, he has nonetheless enjoyed a superb season and will almost certainly be among the goals when England take to the field next month.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 12/1
While the great Cristiano Ronaldo is continuing to make the headlines in the Saudi Pro League for Al-Nassr, he has somewhat been forgotten on the international stage and there are several doubts about whether he will even start for the very strong Portugal side in Germany.
While the Real Madrid legend has lost his way a bit in general play, his finishing remains razor sharp. Should Roberto Martínez take a gamble on him and throw him onto the front line for some of their fixtures, expect his odds of 12/1 to win the Golden Boot slowly trickle down as the tournament progresses.
Jude Bellingham – 16/1
Jude Bellingham has enjoyed a scarcely believable rise to stardom since his big money move to Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund last summer, although many will argue he is merely fulfilling his potential in La Liga. However, even the staunchest of Bellingham fans would not have been able to predict his remarkable transition into a supreme goalscorer, which saw him score 10 goals in his opening 10 games in the Spanish first league.
The former Birmingham midfielder has operated much higher up the field at Madrid than he did at Dortmund and Ancelotti’s gamble has certainly paid off, with Bellingham now one of the most dangerous players in Europe around the penalty area. His odds of 16/1 seem long but place him just fourth in the betting – the only midfielder in the top five selections.
