We’re down to the last eight teams in the oldest football competition in the world, as we enter the quarter-final stage of the FA Cup this weekend.

@Footy_Tipster gives his best predictions ahead of this round of fixtures in the FA Cup..

Preston remain the only EFL Championship side left in the FA Cup, they welcome Aston Villa to Deepdale on Sunday afternoon. Whilst Bournemouth are looking to become the latest side to pile the misery on Manchester City with the two sides ready to battle it out on Sunday evening for a place in the FA Cup semi-final.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some betting angles for Sunday’s FA Cup fixtures:

Preston North End v Aston Villa – Sunday, 1.30pm

  • Preston North End have won this competition twice, in 1889 and then again 1938, whilst this is the first time they’ve reached the quarter-final stage in almost sixty years.
  • Paul Heckingbottom’s side return to Deepdale after their 2-1 victory against Portsmouth before the international break, leaving the Lilywhites nine points off the drop and ten points off the top six.
  • These two sides haven’t met since 2018 in the EFL Championship, all three of those fixtures seven years ago ended in a stalemate, PNE are currently unbeaten in their last fifteen home games.

  • Of course, this is a totally different Aston Villa side now, with the Villans into the quarter-final stages of both the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup.
  • Unai Emery will be looking to end the Villans drought in this competition, it’s been sixty-eight years since their last FA Cup success, remarkable for a club this size.
  • This is Aston Villa’s first away game in this campaign, they’ve won back-to-back away games before the international break, they haven’t won three in a row since August/September.

Prediction: Preston North End 0-2 Aston Villa, Aston Villa To Win To Nil.

Bournemouth v Manchester City – Sunday, 4.30pm

  • Bournemouth confirmed their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals for just the third time in their history with victory over Wolves on via a penalty shootout at the start of the month.
  • The Cherries are having a remarkable season so far but are we starting to see it take it’s toll? Andoni Iraola’s side have failed to win any of their last five games within 90 minutes.
  • Bournemouth will take some confidence from the fact they’ve already beaten Manchester City here this season, a 2-1 win in the Premier League back in November.
    ——————————–
  • Manchester City are another side that probably welcomed the international break, following their win over Plymouth Argle, Pep Guardiola’s side followed it up with a defeat at Nottingham Forest and a stalemate against Brighton.
  • Already out of the UEFA Champions League, the Premier League title race and the EFL Cup, the FA Cup remains the only silverware still on offer for Manchester City this season.
  • This has been a happy stomping ground for City, they’ve won seven of their last eight visits, i think their experience at this stage will see them through here.

Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Manchester City To Win, Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester City.
