FA Cup Second Round Predictions & Betting Tips – Sunday (2025/26)
The FA Cup second round takes place this weekend. Matches are spread across Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday as teams battle it out to earn a place in the prestigious Third Round in the new year.
Premier League and Championship teams enter the competition in the next round.
Slough Town vs Macclesfield
One of these two sixth tier teams will be in the Third Round of the FA Cup. Slough are languishing in 22nd in the National League South, while Macclesfield are 17th in the North.
A thumping of Totton in the first round of the FA Cup has been followed by a heavy defeat to Fylde and a draw with Scarborough for Macclesfield. Slough lost 2-0 to Dover last weekend and only have two wins from their last seven outings.
This isn’t the longest trip that’ll be made by non-league teams this weekend. Home advantage is a factor, and Macclesfield have been inconsistent, but we don’t have much faith in Slough. Away win.
Boreham Wood vs Newport County
With Boreham Wood fifth in the National League and Newport County 24th in League Two, it would hardly be an upset if the home team progressed. There’s not a great deal to choose between these sides on paper.
Boreham Wood are the betting favourites for this tie at 5/6. Newport are winless in six matches. Boreham Wood have beaten Gateshead and Halifax in their last two, and emphatically beat Crawley in the FA Cup first round.
We feel comfortable taking the fifth-tier team to progress, even at odds-on.
Gateshead vs Walsall
Walsall are massive favourites for their trip to the north east. Gateshead are languishing near the bottom of the National League, while the Saddlers are sitting pretty atop League Two.
It’s five defeats on the bounce for Gateshead, all of which have been by multiple goals. Walsall have won their last two matches by two clear goals.
We think the handicap markets are the way to go for this tie. Walsall -1 is a good bet at 11/8.
