Robbie Savage’s picks
First up, Robbie has gone for Blackpool v Plymouth in League One and it’s a game the Tangerines will be eager to win by a few goals given how tight the race for the play-offs currently is, with goal difference potentially coming into play at the end of the season. Blackpool won their last game 3-1 against Peterborough so we could be set for more goals here, while four out of the last six meetings between these two sides have seen three or four goals scored in them.
Staying in League One, Sav’s next pick sees him go for Peterborough v Accrington Stanley. Peterborough are currently fighting for automatic promotion and boast the division’s second best attack with 58 goals, while they have beaten their upcoming opponents 4-0 in two of their last four meetings so we could be in for a goalfest at London Road on Saturday afternoon.
Robbie’s final selection from League One is Hull v Gillingham, which also has the potential for a fair few goals as wherever Gillingham go, goals seem to follow. Of the Gills’ last six fixtures, five of them have had three or more goals. And when you add to the mix that Hull are top of League One with the division’s best attack, we should be in for a lively affair.
It’s on to League Two next for Sav’s fourth pick of the week, with Tranmere v Mansfield taking his fancy. Tranmere are currently sitting in the play-off positions but a big win on Saturday could see them move into the automatic promotion spots, so there’s plenty at stake for them here. What’s more, Rovers have also been involved in either three or four goal clashes in their last two fixtures.
Staying in League Two, Robbie has next gone for Leyton Orient v Oldham – and any fixture involving the latter side is bound to have a few goals in it. Despite sitting 17th in the table, Oldham boast the third best attack in the league with 54 goals this season. However, that is offset by the fact that they also possess the division’s worst defence, having conceded a whopping 62 goals this term. Two of the last four meetings between these two have also witnessed three or four goals in them.
And finally, Sav last selection for the week sees him opt for Crawley v Port Vale in League Two. Port Vale have the joint-third weakest defence in the league, having conceded 51 goals, so Crawley will be hopeful of registering a few goals at Broadfield Stadium on Saturday as they look to mount a play-off push. The Reds’ last game ended in a 3-2 defeat to Barrow, however, which will give Port Vale some hope of bagging a few goals themselves.
