The Edinburgh derby will be rekindled on Wednesday evening when Hearts host Hibernian. With Hibs settled in the top flight, the capital’s top two will do battle for the first time this season.
Hearts vs Hibernian: Odds and predictions
Hearts are wagering as slight favourites in the betting, having been priced up at 6/4 for all three points by the William Hill traders. Hibs meanwhile find their odds figured at a 9/5 pick whilst a sharing of the spoils of war is forecast at 23/10.
Our Hearts vs Hibernian predictions and betting tips are backing a win for Hearts.
Neil Lennon’s Hibernian side impressed many last season when they finished in the top four in their first season since gaining promotion from the Scottish Championship.
Expectations are lukewarm for this season however with Hibs sitting in 6th position after a poor start to the season. Their loss at the weekend was their first after a four-game win streaked propelled them high up the table. Admittedly, they sit only two points behind Celtic and three behind second-placed Kilmarnock albeit with a game in hand.
Hearts meanwhile are enjoying a period of dominance after watching Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic sweep aside all before them during the past few seasons. They sit high and mighty at the top of the table although they still remain a long bet to win the Championship.
Head-to-head (most recent first): Hibernian 2-0 Hearts, Hearts 0-0 Hibernian, Hibernian 1-0 Hearts, Hearts 2-0 Hibernian, Hibernian 2-1 Hearts.
Hearts vs Hibernian predictions: Match betting, score, scorer tips
Score prediction: Match Result Hearts and 4 or More Goals odds of 6/1
The Cabbages have looked formidable in recent weeks until they entertained a Celtic side that seemingly dusted off the cobwebs of the early season to emphatically defeat them 4-2.
Prior to that, Lennon’s side had amassed a four-game win streak including three consecutive clean sheets against Hamilton Academical, St Mirren, and Dundee.
Not just solid at the back, Hibs have scored goals too with an average of 3 goals a game across their last five fixtures. Better still for the first instalment of our Hearts vs Hibernian predictions is Heart’s record not just in front of goal – but their tendency to leak them too.
The Jambos are of course cruising at the top of the table but possess an average goal difference (+12) for a side that has won 8 of 10 games Scottish Premiership games this season.
That’s why our Hearts vs Hibs predictions and betting tips reckon this high-scoring punt should be under your consideration this week.
Goal-scorer prediction: Steven Naithsmith to score first, trading at a 6/1 pick
The final of our Hearts vs Hibernian predictions and betting tips see us wager on Steven Naismith to score.
Sure we might have tipped him to score against Celtic in the League Cup semi-final last weekend without success but we reckon his odds of scoring will be much more likely against a Hibs side that was just spanked for 4 goals.
Having played just 8 minutes of that 3-0 loss to Celtic, the buccaneering Naismith should be fresh and raring to go when his side entertain Hibs. The Scottish forward is currently enjoying a period of goal-scoring form having struck seven times during 10 outings in the Scottish Premiership.
With three goals in his last four appearances for club and country, we fancy a Naismith goal on the cards with his odds of scoring first projected at a 6/1 tip.
