You’ve heard of in-form teams and in-form players, but how about an in-form bet?
This football prediction has been successful in all of Burnley’s last five matches and in six consecutive Newcastle fixtures. Yet when the two teams square off against each other at St James’ Park, the odds on it landing again are not odds-on as you may expect.
Instead, it can be backed at what seems a generous 21/20, with the bet being that the second half is the highest scoring.
Why you shouldn’t bother turning up at St James’ Park until the second half
Burnley’s last five matches have seen a grand total of 18 strikes, of which just two have arrived before the half-time oranges.
Newcastle’s recent record has not been so full of goals, but of the 13 that have been netted across their last six outings, again just two have been registered before the break.
Therefore, in this time, that’s four first-half goals in comparison to 27 after the interval.
This isn’t the only stand-out bet for those looking to capitalise on such a strong goals trend.
Other recommended Newcastle vs Burnley bets
Given the lack of goals in the opening 45 minutes for either side of late, there’s some appeal in the 13/10 that the half-time score is 0-0.
However, more appetising is the 6/4 that over 1.5 second-half strikes are on the menu. Five of the last six fixtures involving Rafa Benitez’s men have seen exactly two goals.
Alternatively, it’s 9/2 for over 2.5 goals in the second period and four of Burnley’s last five matches have witnessed three or more after the interval.
In terms of match betting, home advantage is likely one reason as to why Newcastle are the 21/20 favourites, with Sean Dyche’s visitors 29/10 to make it three successive Premier League wins and the draw on offer at 9/4.
