Inter Milan v AC Milan Coppa Italia semi-final second leg preview

| BY News Team

From 44 teams down to the last four. Inter Milan, AC Milan, Fiorentina and Juventus find themselves battling it out to win Italy’s most prestigious cup competition: the Coppa Italia.

Ahead of the huge semi-final second-leg clash between the two Milan sides on Tuesday, we’ve previewed the action and picked out the best bets on offer.

All square after first leg

The first leg was an uneventful one, resulting in a 0-0 draw. It was by no means a vintage Milan derby and gave the impression of two off-colour teams happy to settle for the draw. In comparison to this, the last league match between the two sides resulted in a thrilling 2-1 win for Milan thanks to two goals in quick succession from Olivier Giroud. In the dying minutes of that game both Alessandro Bastoni and Theo Hernandez were sent off in a typically heated Derby della Madonnina. We’ll be hoping for more of the same on Tuesday night.

Inter in running for domestic treble

Inter remain 2/5 favourites to win Serie A for the second time running, having stormed to first place last season, losing just three games and topping the table by 12 points. They are currently two points behind league leaders Milan, but have a crucial game in hand.

Having already won the Supercoppa Italiana and being in the last four of the Coppa Italia, they will have their eyes on the Italian domestic treble, with Juventus the last side to achieve the feat in the 2015-16 season.

Simone Inzaghi’s side won the Supercoppa Italiana earlier this season in some fashion. They managed to clinch a 2-1 victory over Juventus thanks to a 121st minute winner from Alexis Sanchez. Such a win has helped fuel Inter’s trophy charge, with the side having lost just two domestic matches since that triumph in January, and they head into Tuesday’s game against their rivals as the 21/20 favourites.

Tight Milan derby expected

While it’s Inter that head into this game as favourites to run out winners in the 90 minutes, Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan aren’t far off at 13/5.  Milan punished Lazio in a 4-0 thumping at the San Siro in the quarter-finals and will be hoping for a similar performance against Inter.

While Inter may appear to have the slight edge in the title race, Milan are unbeaten in their last 13 games and will fancy their chances to overcome their rivals as they seek to win a 15th Coppa Italia. Milan are 19/20 to qualify for the final. Inter, meanwhile, are 4/5 to do the same as they seek to win a first Coppa Italia since 2011.

Inter and Milan both possess keen defensive records this season, having the best and joint-third best defensive records in Serie A respectively. Milan have kept clean sheets in all of their last seven games while Inter have conceded just three in their last nine, despite tough opposition against the likes of Liverpool, Juventus and Milan.

It could then be a low-scoring affair on Tuesday. It’s 8/11 for there to be under 2.5 goals scored, while Inter are 6/4 to keep a clean sheet. As for penalties, both teams are 33/1 to win via a shootout.
