January signings to look out for

| BY News Team

The January transfer window gives teams around Europe the opportunity to strengthen their squads mid-season, and can often provide some clubs the impetus to kick on for the second half of their campaigns.

Whilst usually dwarfed by spending figures in the summer, this year’s January transfer window certainly doesn’t look set to disappoint with a host of big names rumoured to be on the move.

We have a look at some of the hottest players in the January shop window.

Victor Osimhen

Having a world class number nine is a recipe for success in football and the story at Napoli is no different as Victor Osimhen found the back of the net 26 times in the Seria A last season as ‘Gli Azzurri’ romped to the title.

Osimhen has been the subject of interest for almost all of Europe’s top clubs since January of that season, and that doesn’t look set to change as many are eyeing up a move for the star striker next month.

Chelsea have been trying for years to break their striker curse, and despite Nicholas Jackson averaging only just under a goal every other game in the Premier League this season, fans have not been convinced by the Senegalese forward. Osimhen will be high on many Chelsea fans’ wish list and he is 5/1 to join Mauricio Pochettino’s men this January, while he is 8/1 to join London rivals Arsenal between now and the end of the month.

Kalvin Phillips

It is not long ago that Kalvin Phillips was living the dream, winning England Player of the Year and signing for Manchester City for over £40 million – but it has not been plain sailing for the Yorkshireman. Phillips has played just 911 minutes of football since joining City at the beginning of the 2022/23 season and his patience has finally broken as he is seeking a January move.

Newcastle have had somewhat of an injury crisis this season and are in hot pursuit of the City midfielder at 6/5, it is Crystal Palace who currently lead the betting at EVS to secure his signature. A move abroad also can’t be discounted for Phillips, who is 6/1 to join Italian giants Juventus.

Dominic Solanke

Dominic Solanke has arguably been the surprise story of the season so far, with the Bournemouth striker chalking up 12 goals in 19 games for the Cherries so far this campaign – strengthening his push for a place in England’s Euros squad in the summer.

Such performances have attracted the likes of injury-hit Newcastle, who are the 5/2 favourites to add the former Chelsea and Liverpool man to their ranks between now and the end of January. North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal – both likewise with injuries to their front line – are next in the betting at 8/1 apiece.
