Jermaine Jenas’ League Cup final Eyecatchers

| BY News Team

Jermaine Jenas picks four players to look out for when Liverpool and Chelsea meet at Wembley on Sunday.

Malang Sarr

Chelsea

JJ: Whether he plays left of a three at the back or left-back – however Thomas Tuchel decides to go – this is a player that has featured heavily in the League Cup. He’s a player that, any time he’s come in for Chelsea, I think he’s absolutely solid. They’ve found another top defender. And if Chelsea are going to win this, he’s one that’s going to have to have a big game. So, look out for him.

Christian Pulisic

Chelsea

JJ: With Romelu Lukaku dropped for the game against Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday, Chelsea needed someone to step up – and Pulisic did just that with one of his best performances in a Blues shirt. His pace and vision makes him a huge threat in the final third and he could be the player that unlocks that Liverpool defence.

Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool

JJ: The midfield battle is key, so I’m going to go with Thiago. Came on last weekend, changed the game completely, against Norwich. The midfield battle against Chelsea is always important. So, I think, if he can get on that ball, dictate the tempo, and try to give Liverpool as much possession as possible, they have got a great chance.

Fabinho

Liverpool

JJ: Next to Thiago in that midfield, I’m going with Fabinho. Now, Fabinho is massively important in this Liverpool team. There are so many components going on all around him – but he just sits there making sure things are stable and ready and solid. He needs to have a big, big afternoon in a Liverpool shirt – but if he can do what he does best, they have a great chance.

All four of JJ’s picks were fit and available at the time of writing.

The key stats for JJ’s fab four

Fabinho made more tackles than anyone else in Liverpool’s semi-final second leg win over Arsenal.

Christian Pulisic got the highest WhoScored rating in Tuesday’s Champions League win over Lille and bagged the second goal.

Malang Sarr played 90 minutes in both legs against Spurs – as part of a defence that conceded just five shots on target across the tie.
