League 1 Predictions

SEVERAL clubs return to League One combat this weekend following international call-up postponements.

There are some attractive upcoming fixtures throwing particular emphasis on automatic promotion issues plus the push for Play-Offs contention. Accordingly, League One betting activity is ramping up.

Incidentally, Exeter City’s scheduled home game against Burton Albion was called off in advance on Wednesday morning due to extensive fire damage at St James Park.

Anyway here are the pairings I am anticipating most alongside considered score predictions to guide your football betting – all of the matches below are scheduled to kick-off at 3pm.

AFC Wimbledon v Wigan Athletic

AFC Wimbledon preview – One point beneath Play-Off discussions after two EFL defeats on the spin. Their emphatic 5-0 reverse at Peterborough United last time out particularly surprised me. Off the field, AFC Wimbledon have met potential investors to sell a minority stake in the club because “our current structure is not sustainably.”

Wigan Athletic preview – A single victory among seven EFL games leaving the Latics slipping towards relegation peril. They’ve yet to triumph away from home in 2025/26 League 1 duties (five draws, three defeats).

Score prediction: Dons on the money 2-0.

Barnsley v Luton Town

Barnsley preview – The most recent 2-1 win at Doncaster Rovers terminated five EFL matches bereft of victory.

Luton Town preview – Three points short of the Play-Off area. Four games undefeated in all competitions. So fortunes are certainly picking up since former England midfielder Jack Wilshere was appointed first team manager on 13th October.

Score prediction: Hatters harmonious 3-1.

Bolton Wanderers v Bradford City

Bolton Wanderers preview – Fourth hosts third in a crucial Play-Off zone clash. Bolton boast five straight wins across all competitions. Furthermore, unbeaten at home in eight EFL engagements all season conceding merely four times.

Bradford City preview – One point above their imminent opponents despite six non-winning League and Cup outings whilst losing the last three. Bantams boss Graham Alexander said: “We need to find our character and confidence again. It has been looking really brittle lately.” Away form is good though with the solitary EFL road trip defeat being 3-1 at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday 6th September.

Score prediction: Attacking spectacle 4-4.

Northampton Town v Cardiff City

Northampton Town preview – Cobblers possess three defeats amid five League 1 matches.

Cardiff City preview – The Bluebirds featured prominently in pre-season favourites’ odds. But now nursing two consecutive EFL setbacks (both away) to hover two points below those coveted automatic promotion rungs.

Score prediction: Bluebirds bounce back 1-0.

Stevenage v Doncaster Rovers

Stevenage preview – Two points shy of the top two in light of three League games lacking victory. Even so, unbeaten at home throughout 2025/25 EFL action registering five wins, a draw and just two goals leaked.

Doncaster Rovers preview – Travelling down the A1 hoping to overturn an alarming nine EFL games without victory dismally incorporating seven defeats. Donny’s previous maximum pointer was 3-1 past visitors Bradford City on Saturday 6th September. They haven’t won away in League One beyond August.

Score prediction: Stevenage stirring success 4-1.

Wycombe Wanderers v Lincoln City

Wycombe Wanderers preview – Three wins embellishing six undefeated League affairs. Hence encouraging dividends are accruing under Michael Duff who became head coach on 18th September.

Lincoln City preview – Ascended into the automatic promotion places courtesy of last Saturday’s 2-1 home success over Doncaster Rovers. It ended a mini-slump of three winless EFL games for the Imps including two losses. Lincoln City boss Michael Skubala said: “It’s great for supporters to get excited about our League position although my job is to keep the players level and focused. We simply must continue churning out three points as much as possible.”

Score prediction: Imps immense 3-2.
